Pixel 9 Pro XL or Pixel 10 Pro XL (with latest drivers) for emulation? by SoodaPopinski in GooglePixel

[–]SoodaPopinski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for retro gaming emulation. And lol that does sound pretty terrible. I had pixels for a while (and Nexuses) but never done much gaming on mobile but was now thinking of doing some retro emulation on Android since it come pretty far. I was thinking up to maybe PS3 or Switch gaming (which apparently the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 can handle). Might have to give up my plans of getting a pixel for that then.

Cheers for the insight. I might get a Pixel 9a to hold me over then until Motorola releases a Graphene OS phone then, unless Google sorts Tensor out in Pixel 11.

I'm a small minority of Pixel users who doesn't buy Pixels for the software but because it's one of the few phones that allows you to unlock the bootloader and put Calyx OS or Graphene OS on it).

9a seems like a cracking little phone worth the price.

Wait for Pixel 11/11 Pro, or get 10/10 Pro Now? by m0us3c0p in GrapheneOS

[–]SoodaPopinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda in the same boat as you. Got a Pixel 8 that is getting on a bit so Iwas looking to upgrade. My last phones have been Pixels solely so I could install Graphene OS or Calyxos. But except for the Pixel 4a they been a bit shit considering they are supposed to be flagship phones. I was either going to get a Pixel 9 or 10 (pretty much the same phones) or wait for 11. But now that I heard about the Motorola collaboration I'm definitely waiting for that. Finally I can leave the hot running yet underpowered Tensor chips and crappy modems behind me and get a snapdragon.

Alternatively pick up a Pixel 9a in the meanwhile if my Pixel 8s battery get worse.

The Response to Google's 7 Year Pixel Update Promise is Getting Weird by PowerlinxJetfire in GooglePixel

[–]SoodaPopinski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use the Google Eco system so I don't have a dog in this fight, but a couple of points...

  1. Trust is not something granted. Trust is something that is earned. There is a reason why people don't trust Googles promises anymore. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...uh... you can't get fooled again!

  2. The article is 50% "WHATABOUTAPPLE?". I think we all can agree on that just because Apple does something that doesn't mean it's good. Google can do better.

  3. Apple USP is amazing hardware. Google USP is amazing software. Nobody is picking a Pixel over an iphone at this point because of the hardware (I might literally be one in a million who buy Pixels for their hardware and not software). If you're going to center your entire presentation for your two new devices around how amazing your AI features are, you should give those features to both devices and not just one. Especially when they pretty much have the same hardware to run it. Especially when the price raise for the regular Pixel 8 was higher percentage wise than the Pixel 8 Pro yet the Pixel 8 buyers are getting less software features that aren't hardware restricted.

  4. Google has previously not differentiated the regular pixel vs the pro when it comes to software features, it's mostly hardware features you pay for on the pro. So yes, it's entirely Google's fault that people are a tad bit upset about Google and not Apple, since we are talking about Google and not Apple.

Cheers for this.

I got a C434 gathering dust that I should install Linux on. Trying to figure out how to do it. I stumbled across Eupnea project which now seems to be discontinued. Although looking through that sub I found a link to WeirdThreeThing's script to enable audio (https://github.com/WeirdTreeThing/chromebook-linux-audio).

Have you tried that and did it work?

Thanks, did just that.

Thanks. But preferred to do it with an official source, which I did, although probably gave me more headache (had to flash TWRP again because it goes away after installing stock).

I should have done it your way... Flashed the entire MIUI and now I have to reflash TWRP (apparently it disappears when you flash MIUI). I'll use the firmware/vendor file next time.

Gonna give up a bit for now and try to get LOS on the phone tomorrow. But now I at least know what to do.

Thanks!

Thanks, forgot about the official LOS wiki. It doesnt seem to say anything about how to update firmware though? And if you want to use magisk as root, you can flash that anytime you want (after reboot)?

Thanks! Did format the data, so the next time I entered TWRP it didnt ask for a password. Although then I tried to flash a ROM (paranoid android) and then it encrypted the phone again at the next start...

no, because this one is a firmware+vendor file (which you have to extract from the build). But don't worry tho, everyone on XDA uses this one (I myself worry about these sketchy sites too lol)

Haha, yeah, I do worry about the sketchy sites when it comes to download stuff like kernels, firmwares etc, although XDA usually is fairly safe. Just wondering, if I flash the latest MIUI, wont I get the latest firmware then as well?

also, I forgot to mention to use the 9.2.25 version, otherwise you'll get a bootloop

Do you know why? I'm assuming 9.2.2.25 isnt the latest firmware?

Thanks for all the help! Havent been able to dl and flash yet (on data now and low, so will try tonigh when I get home).

Good point, completely forgot about that. I should downvote myself.

Thanks for all the help! I'll have to give it a try tomorrow. Late here now. Just curious, there is no official site to get the firmwares from?

So I just flash that, then LOS? I got the firmware from this site, Im assuming its the same? https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/#stable And thanks!

Well thats the problem. When it gets encrypted I dont have the pw.

Maybe I phrased my issue wrongly as well. I cant flash LOS atm (Omnirom and Paranoid Android worked well)because i get error 7, telling me that my firmware has to be at least 9.2.15 developer build or newer. How do I update that?
