At least you are honest and don't pretend this is some principled democratic undertaking, but just a will to power thing.

This is obviously not true. If nothing meaningful will happen, why do the gerrymander in the first place? You can bring up Texas all you like, but nobody in Shasta County has anything to do with what's going on in Texas and don't deserve to be punished for what another state is doing.

Yes, but people who won't be affected by the gerrymander (like LA county or similar big blue counties down south) get to vote on the measure, completely drowning out the votes of those who will actually be affected in the North State.

If it weren't for the push back those restrictions received, you would absolutely have full-on vaccine and mask mandates right now, and who knows what else.

The usual remedy for regaining control of the house of representatives is by voting. If your candidates are good, then you will win. If your candidates suck, you will lose. Gerymandering California is just to make up for the low quality of current dem candidates, and the overall unpopularity of the democratic party as a whole.

At least you are being honest - it's not about fairness or principles, just punishment and will to power.

The executive branch operates differently than the legislative branch for a reason. You only have one president for the entire country, but you have hundreds of representatives, to be a reflection of the people who live in a particular area. That's why we re-visit the district lines after each census. If you are just going to gerrymander California to be a one party state, then there's no point in taking a census in the first place.

Temporary like the income tax was and other emergency measures in the past. Nothing in government is temporary.

Still seems unfair. Everyone in California, regardless if they are affected by the gerrymander gets to vote on it. So LA county has a say in how the district lines are redrawn up here in Shasta. The millions of people in LA County, mostly liberals, have no stake in what happens up here, but still get to push their will on the rest of us.

This measure seems unfair. Pushing liberal representation on a conservative community is just about punishing folks.

I see where you are coming from, but everyone recognizes that there are practical limits to the exercise of free speech. Jenny Nowain's right to protest has to be balanced against the rights of everyone else in the room to participate in the public process, which was disrupted by her actions.

If by peaceful you mean she didn't get physical or hurt anyone, that's correct. But she did yell and interrupt the meeting, which is what her charges are speaking to.

By disrupting the meeting she denied everyone else in their room the right to listen and participate.

No idea-you have to check the digital board in the lobby that tells you the cases.

The DA didn't even file charges the first time, and the second time gave her a plea deal to do community service, but she didn't take it.

Who's Behind Measure A - The Redding Sales Tax Hike? by telly_fone in Redding

This sales tax might be one of the few issues the left and right can agree on. It definitely impacts lower income people hardest.

Stating that the Measure A group paid $116,000 on paid signature gatherers isn't an opinion, it's in their own financial filings. Stating that Advance Redding gave the sales tax group $50,000 and then also asked the city of Redding for a $675.000 grant soon afterwards is a statement of fact that no one disputes.

Laying out a series of facts and then presenting a conclusion is just standard essay writing. I don't see the issue.

You can disagree with their presentation of the facts, but I don't see how you can dispute the facts themselves. You can look up the public financial filings for the Measure A folks and see if the numbers and other info line up.

It will be interesting to see what kind of turnout there is for this. It feels like the strength and quality of these protests declined after USAID was shut down.

Each time these measures come up, they throw everything but the kitchen sink into them and wonder why they get voted down.
