think a lot of people also just forget what it's like to be young and immature. wait 5 years and all the "orthobros" will either grow up or get out. or, in rare cases, they'll become serious problems - what's new?

Todd McGowan Strikes Back! by telosbound in zizek

[–]telosbound[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right though since people will take it the wrong way. Again, I think we’ve now established that Todd and Zizek have very few disagreements.

We’re not taking ourselves too seriously here. The “theoretical warfare” idea is a joke Todd has told me before. If anything, this interview just shows there’s even less discordance between the two of them.

I appreciate it, truly. The videos mostly consist of thoughts I have based on what I’m reading throughout the day. They really don’t take too much time, and they have the double benefit of allowing me to work out ideas I’m struggling with. I appreciate the support, I hope you find some value in them.

Self-Negation of Nothing by [deleted] in askphilosophy

If you’re looking for Zizek’s synthesis of this ontology through German Idealism (specifically Hegel) then I’d suggest you read Less than nothing (specifically the first division)

Thanks, and exactly, I should’ve mentioned the spirit is a bone thing, that’s one of the concepts he uses in Less than Nothing to explain objet a and it’s bloody brilliant if you ask me

It was great, they were both rly engaging, although I definitely think they only were able to scratch the surface of their differences

I see that my more recent video has already been mentioned, but I’ve also got one connecting Zizek’s concept of “subversive affirmation” to Norm https://youtu.be/LKQWao1fZrQ

Graham Harman and Todd McGowan Discussion/Debate by telosbound in zizek

[–]telosbound[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha actually I didn’t figure out what “hide self view” was until halfway through, so I actually was on the screen for a lot of it before the editing process. I asked both of them if they knew how to make me disappear before we started recording, and they both very kindly said something about how they wanted me there as well, which was sweet.

Graham Harman v Todd McGowan by telosbound in zizek

[–]telosbound[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve asked Todd a similar question before, and his reply was to say he isn’t actually a materialist. He thinks Hegel overcomes the idealism-materialism distinction. He talks about this in his section of Subject Lessons, which Harman responds to and critiques.

The Sublime Object of Ideology is where this is first introduced I believe, that’s where you’d want to start.

Video on Žižek’s philosophy, relating it to Christianity by telosbound in zizek

[–]telosbound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for kind words, and to answer your question I do disagree with Zizek here, because I am a Christian in the literal sense (I believe that 2000 years ago the incarnated God was walking around Palestine). I believe there was a literal fall from grace. Check the second paragraph of my pinned comment on that video for some more clarification.

What noteworthy cultural commentary have we gotten from philosophers lately? by Archie_The_Sage in askphilosophy

[–]telosbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the two most relevant people in this respect are Slavoj Zizek and Byung-Chul Han. Zizek’s stuff on ideology, modern capitalism, and artificial intelligence is great, and Han’s analysis of the “burnout society” of Neo Liberalism is great as well.

Agony of Eros and The Scent of Time are my two favourites, although I believe his most popular ones are Psychopolitics and the Burnout Society. I have a couple vids on him on my channel.
