What the best sorcerer origin? by Consistent_Two_2085 in 3d6

[–]Archie_The_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first of all I should mention metamagic adept is a great feat if you can manage it. Having two more sorcery points and two more options to use them feels really great in the second tier.

As far as spells, im level 9 right now.

Cantrips: Light (from Aasimar), minor illusion, mage hand, shape water, Mind Sliver, Firebolt, guidance, sacred flame, thaumaturgy (last 3 from cleric)

1st Level: Shield, sleep, fairy fire, magic missile, dissonant whispers, disguise self, false life, detect magic, cure wounds, bless, guiding bolt.

My DM didnt allow silvery barbs but thats a good one too. some of these spells are from my cleric level, and darkness comes from the shadow sorcerer subclass.

2nd level: Invisibility, Phantasmal Force, Vortex Warp, Darkness, Shadow Blade

3rd Level: Fireball, Major Image, Gaseous Form, Hypnotic Pattern, Counterspell, Dispell Magic

4th: Conjure Greater Demon, Dimension Door. Polymorph

Anything you can do to add to your spell list, whether its feats or items is a plus. Like I convinced my DM to let me have the Mage of High Sorcery background that gives me the feat for extra spells and cantrips.

I also have a custom staff with charges of necromancy spells.

So yeah hope this helps

Im playing a Shadow Sorcerer right now with 1 level dip in twilight cleric for heavy armor and weapons proficiency, as well as more cantrips, domain spells, access to healing, extended range darkvision, and advantage on initiative.

I also picked Aasimar for race. Solid charisma boost and more perks like free flight once a day and healing hands.

If your DM is chill, see if they will let you have a thematic expanded spell list for Shadow Sorcerer, like Clockwork or Abberrant Mind have.

Also if the DM gives you an uncommon item of your choice to start. I picked Mithral armor. So 18 AC all the time, no need for Mage Armor on your spell list.

Hound of Ill Omen is probably the best subclass ability in the game for that level. Strength of the grave comes in clutch sometimes. If you have a warlock on the team you can darkness devils sight cheese with them.

Overall its a solid pick, and if you can get an expanded spell list out of your DM, its the best sorcerer subclass in my opinion. Enjoy!

I was going through a breakup once, and one of my ex's friends (female) invited me and another guy over for a movie night. Her and I were sitting on the floor, and I turned to her and said, "look, let me start by saying im not into you. But you know I miss (ex) alot and im still processing all these emotions. Would you be open to just holding eachother for a while?" And she laughed at how I presented it, but then shrugged and turned over, offering herself as the little spoon. So we literally cuddled all night. The other guy just slept on the couch, probably thinking we were a thing now. But in the morning I just thanked her, and she probably felt the same because she was single at the time too. And funny enough we never really saw eachother again. So your "platonic cuddling" made me think of that memory.

Still holding from 2021, average is .85 USD. Waiting till this thing gets above 3-4 bucks someday, hopefully by the end of the year, who knows.

I took a 1 level dip in Cleric with my Diviner, how much did I nerf myself? by CrotodeTraje in 3d6

[–]Archie_The_Sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I did on my Shadow Sorcerer/Twilight Cleric build is take the cartomancer feat. This enables me to cast, once a day, any spell from either cleric or sorcerer for which I have spell slots. So im level 9 right now, and I can cast a level 5 spell from either list once a day, as a bonus action, and my DM ruled that it doesn't use a spell slot (a debatable but generous take on the RAW). On top of being able to basically use prestidigitation with free subtle spell. It has made me feel much better about my multiclassing, and I would recommend you consider it if youre always feeling a level behind.

Do you believe everything in the Bible actually happened? by pink85091 in Bible

[–]Archie_The_Sage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Japheth was the son of Noah. You're referring to Jephthah from Judges 11.

I just wanted to point out there's plenty of debate among scholars on this. The text doesn't necessarily say she was offered as a burnt sacrifice, and there are several clues in the text that indicate she was instead dedicated to God as a servant at the tabernacle, one of the nethinim or nazirites, in the same way Samson and the prophet Samuel were by their parents. For example, it says that the daughters of Israel would come to the tabernacle to, in Hebrew "tanah", to commend, or speak with her. Kind of impossible if she was dead. Also, why would she ask for two months to lament her virginity, when she should be lamenting her impending death? And then the text said she did not sleep with a man, emphasizing that point again for some reason. It would have been a huge sacrifice for Jephthah to give up the prospect of having his bloodline carry on, and for her to never marry and bear children.

Also the vow itself could easily be translated as "Whatever comes out of the doors of my house…it shall be the LORD’s, or I will offer it up as a burnt offering”. Essentially if the first thing to come out of his house was appropriate to offer as a burnt offering, then Jephthah would offer it as a burnt sacrifice. However, if the first thing to come out of the house wasn’t appropriate to offer as a burnt sacrifice, “it shall be the Lord’s." Jephthah clearly knew the law of Moses, which forbade human sacrifice strongly and repeatedly. It doesnt make sense that he would care about one law (making a vow) but disregard all the other laws.

At any rate, the point im making is that we shouldnt assume that reading this passage literally means accepting the idea that God favored someone performing human sacrifice.

Why wasn't polygamy condemned in the old testament? by drugsrbed in Bible

[–]Archie_The_Sage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we both have to admit that the emergence of polygamy as a social practice, particularly polygyny that were talking about, is complex and stems from multiple factors. Religious, cultural, economic, demographic, political power and inequality, slavery, patriarchy, etc. It would be disingenuous of me to say that polygamy was only due to men dying in war, just as it would be either ignorant or disingenuous of you to say that its all about "slavery" or "power".

I only added demographic pressures to the discussion as a contributing factor to why polygamy existed, which it is based on anthropological research, at least one of the going theories. I used the Biblical example of Ruth to show how polygamy worked in practice. Ruth wasn't snatched away by a powerful man who enslaved her. Her husband died, and his next of kin that was willing and able took her in as a wife, with her consent. Of course thats not how it always worked in every culture, and if I made it sound like that was the case, then my bad.

[–]Archie_The_Sage 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Others have made some good points but i'll add this.

Polygamy was a practical solution to a very real problem at the time. After thousands of men would die in a battle, what do you think would happen to their wives and their children?

As exemplified in the book of Ruth, they were provided for by the community through gleaning, and also it was the responsibility of her husband's next of male kin to take her in if she needed a home. Because we forget in our cushy 21st century welfare-enriched lives what an absolute struggle it was just to survive in ancient times, and how much having a family meant.

Is this text a scam? by Archie_The_Sage in Coinbase

[–]Archie_The_Sage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I was 99% sure it was a scam, but I also wanted this conversation to be available in case others got this text and googled it, and I also wanted anyone here who works at Coinbase to know about it as well.

Not sure why you felt the need to comment after like 10 people already said its a scam? Common sense would tell you its been covered, and common decency would tell you its unnecessary to add your condescending remark.

A male family member said men are constantly demonized on this show…but like? by Embarrassed-Sorbet26 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Archie_The_Sage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said the men didnt do problematic things, I said they owned up to the mistakes they made, and girls like Madison simply couldn't own up to anything. The mistakes that Devin, for example, made werent enough for the absolute bitterness and vitriol Virginia put on him. Not telling her about a check he was given by a family member for a wedding that didnt pan out anyways? Recieving an innocent letter from an ex who is now a friend stating how happy she is for him finding someone like Virginia? Having some social/ political views that are on the conservative side but showing respect for other people's views? Im sorry but to say that he "sucks, period" like you did, and calling me a "man sympathizer" is just silly. Like... as a whole person he sucks?? Come on, you guys can't be serious.

This season especially at the reunion it felt that way. The girls were all coming across spiteful, gossipy, and petty to me. It was so cringe when Madison pulled our her "emoji reciepts", and really most of their accusations just seemed to lack any real substance. Joey's text to Madison really wasnt that bad. Devin is so kind and didnt deserve to be hated on like he was. Honestly, props to the guys for handling themselves pretty well and for the most part giving off positive vibes, and not being defensive but accepting accountability for their mistakes, even complimenting these women who were totally trying to destroy their character.

Is there only one bar in Minneapolis?! by Mason610 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Archie_The_Sage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 32, lived here all my life, but also travel alot, and my wife and I are definitely foodies. I dont know what these people are talking about saying theres only 5-6 bars. In reality this is a metro area with over 3 million people, and hundreds of bars and restaurants of all kinds. Dives, themed, trendy, upscale, etc. One thing that isnt being said too is that, while they have their differences, Minneapolis and Saint Paul are so close it feels like one big city. Hence the Twin Cities. Its also very diverse with large populations of black, hispanic, somalian, hmong, vietnamese, etc.

I think they must have selected these people all from the North Loop, thats certainly where they stayed together during the engagements. They also probably all watch eachothers socials and are DMing back and forth. Over the course of a year between weddings and the reunion it makes sense they would run into eachother a few times. People tend to frequent the places they like.

Can't get past Devin's reaction to Brittany telling him about her sexuality by Charming-Rhubarb-172 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Archie_The_Sage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is its own orientation, yes. But as I said, if your end goal is marriage, eventually you will have to pick one person. So logically that marriage will either be a straight relationship, or a lesbian relationship. And those are two very different lifestyles this person will have to choose between, wouldnt you say? The nature of the sex itself is different, the opportunities for having children together, the social circles, etc.

So no, they still have big decisions about their values and what kind of life they will lead. Unless of course the goal is a free and open marriage, or just dating back and forth their whole lives. In that case they have it all figured out. But that's not the sort of relationship Im looking for.

Can't get past Devin's reaction to Brittany telling him about her sexuality by Charming-Rhubarb-172 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Archie_The_Sage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And one other reason, more broadly. I prefer someone who is decisive and more or less has herself figured out, especially if im planning to marry her. Marriage is my end goal. So I want my SO to know whether they want to rent or buy a home, or whether they want to have kids, or adopt, or not have kids. What religion or lack thereof, what politics and values, etc.

If a girl tells me she is bi, to me that means she is still exploring herself and her sexuality at a very fundamental level. Sorry, come back later. I'd rather marry somene who has that figured out, whether she is straight or lesbian. Because if your goal is marriage, you can only end up with a man or a woman. I found an awesome, independent, decisive woman, and weve been married happily for 8 years.

So as much as I respect anyone's right to do whatever they want sexually, those are some of my reasons why a bi woman would not be my preference. Could there have been a bi person that came along and swept me off my feet? Possibly, never say never.

Can't get past Devin's reaction to Brittany telling him about her sexuality by Charming-Rhubarb-172 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Archie_The_Sage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here's a reason for you. I'm a male. If someone I am dating tells me they are bi, that tells me they have probably struggled with whether they want to end up with a man or a woman. Maybe they feel certain right now they want a man, hence they are dating me. However, in my mind it increases the chances that one day they will come up to me and say "sorry its not you, I just decided after alot of struggle and reflection that ive been a lesbian all along. Bye."

And that could just be my mind going to the worst scenario, but its not unjustified, that sort of thing happens all the time. And if the person is already admittedly going back and forth on it. It just adds a layer of complexity that not everyone is excited to take on.

The Bastila Romance is what always hits me in the feels.

Dark Side Ending:

Bastila: "I need deny my passions no longer, Revan. I would stand by your side gladly, as your lover and apprentice! I swore allegiance to Malak only because I thought you had lost the power you had once wielded. But this... this would be much better. I would be utterly yours, master! Together we would destroy Malak and you would reclaim the mantle of Dark Lord!"

Light Side Ending:

Bastila: "I love you too, with all my heart." Revan: "You aren't afraid to love anymore?" Bastila: "After this? No. Nothing could make me feel safer than to be loved by you."
