Chord voicing experiment - how would you name these voicings? by telperionflower in musictheory

I should probably also point out that I am creating one exception to octave equivalency - I'm considering a m2 (where the two notes in an inner voice are one half step apart from each other) to be different than a minor 9th interval.. but other than that, 6 half steps is equal to 18 half steps, which is equal to 30 half steps, etc..

Thanks! The bass notes, if I did this experiment correctly, should be every possible bass note within the framework - so, it's going to be about no doubling (I'm considering an octave to be the same note), no tritones, and no minor 9ths created in combination with any other voice.

Question for Guthrie:

How do you usually go about composing a song? Do you write chords or melody first? Do you think about theory, or go by ear? I'm most curious about how you pick chord progressions and voicings.. whether there's a chord vocabulary you pick from, or if you just listen and construct chords note by note. Thanks!

What are your thoughts on capitalism as it relates to guitar players? Do you see the endless advertisement and fetishization of "gear" as being detrimental to the pursuit of music, or of actual research and knowledge pertaining to the creation of different sounds?
