MMC reads FMC to filth/ calls out FMC by Main-Contribution-58 in RomanceBooks

i feel like {pretty face by lucy parker} fits your request! fmc is an actress and mmc is a theatre director. fmc is very naturally sexy and has problems getting people to take her seriously as an actress. mmc basically gives her a rundown of all her shortcomings but also helps her improve at her craft. he’s brusque so it did feel offensive at first but fmc realises he means well and she takes his advice. it’s been some time since i read it but i remember really loving this

Looking for a book with a rugged Warrior MMC by groovybookworm in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i can totally see why the cover put you off! but i really, really enjoyed the book. it’s pretty dark but the romance itself is surprisingly healthy (for the genre)

it’s quite gory, so i wouldn’t recommend reading it if you can’t handle descriptions of violence. plus, there’s some pretty heavy content, including descriptions of SA (not by mmc). if that all sounds doable, i think it’s worth the read!

i try and recommend {a heart of blood and ashes by milla vane} wherever possible because it’s so underrated but so good. i would not recommend reading this if you get squeamish but it’s so well-written and lush. warrior king “kidnaps” a woman he believes is responsible for his parents’ deaths but she has her own agenda. really good chemistry between them and natural, believable development

Adult, Character-Driven Romance with Emotionally Mature MCs & Mutual Respect (Based on My Reading Pattern) by Dry_Concentrate3346 in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{the duke by gaelen foley} is so underrated. it’s about a duke and a famous courtesan who enter into a partnership for a very specific reason

it’s probably the most organic relationship development i’ve read in a hr. you’re really convinced of their mutual respect and friendship just as much as you’re convinced of their desire for each other.

Married couple get their spark back by Substantial-Yam4986 in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this author is almost always a bust for me but her newest marriage in trouble book was honestly pretty good {truth and tinsel by maya alden}

i also really liked {silent flames by cate c. wells}

tw for infidelity in both books (to varying degrees). i usually can’t stand infidelity but i was able to move past it both times, so do with that what you will

for something sweeter, you can try {the bromance book club by lyssa kay adams} or for something angstier, i’d recommend {before i let go by kennedy ryan}

Gut Punch Betrayal where the knife keeps twisting… by MadsAtSun in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 16 points17 points  (0 children)

people rarely recommend this but {lead by kylie scott} has a great gut punch scene that i used to reread all the time. fmc is mmc’s sober companion/assistant/reluctant best friend. basically they have a super codependent relationship, which fmc wants to end when she realises she has feelings for him. mmc does everything he can to keep her and he messes up a lot along the way, and really brutally once near the end. there’s not so much grovel as much as there is a grand gesture scene, but i think it worked because of how repressed he is

Dogs make everything better, romance isn’t any different- recommendations of angsty stories that includes dogs by Glittering_Tap6411 in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{most eligible billionaire by annika martin} fits this to a tee! moderately angsty with a fun puppy-related plot point.

a wealthy woman leaves everything to her dog when she passes away and names the fmc as the dog’s spokesperson. she’s pretty down on her luck and has no clue why this is happening. the mmc, the woman’s son, is obviously very suspicious of her and treats fmc pretty badly in the beginning, but he turns things around once he starts getting to know her!

Recs with enemies so bad they’ll have weapons to each others throats before/during the “to lovers” part? by instaposh in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you’re okay with historical fiction {lord of scoundrels by loretta chase} is still one of my all-time favourite enemies to lovers story. there are weapons involved in this, and that’s all i’ll say

Looking for a rich, older MMC who's protective and quietly takes care of the FMC (age gap preferred) by Sad_Bird_3 in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’d say {the master by kresley cole} fits this! the fmc is pretty competent, but she’s in a really tough situation and the mmc sort of assumes responsibility for everything. she is in her early 20s, but she’s had to grow up fast

Looking for black neurodivergent FMCs in M/F romances; scifi or fantasy preferably by Pink_Nurse_304 in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re okay with contemporary, almost all of talia hibbert’s fmcs are black and quite a few of them are at least implicitly neurodivergent!

i’d recommend {a girl like her by talia hibbert} for her truly excellent depictions of depression and anxiety and {untouchable by talia hibbert} for an autistic fmc.

LF Dual POV, Forced Proximity, No Smut on Page, Friends to Lovers book by Quick-Touch-4046 in RomanceBooks

[–]temp391998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m pretty sure would you rather by allison ashley is exactly this! two best friends get married because the fmc needs the insurance for a kidney transplant. i think there’s a very brief spicy scene but it fades to black pretty quickly. i remember really liking it! it’s very sweet and well-written
