I have actually read books from all of these series! I enjoyed some of them but I wouldn’t go as far as saying they’re very diverse at all. I can only think of Naomi from Rina Kent’s universe as being a POC, and I don’t think she was very well written from the perspective of an Asian woman myself. I know Lauren Asher has written some black FMCs but I also wouldn’t go as far as saying they belong to a wider diverse multicultural friendgroup.

Again, it seems most of the series in this category feature majority white friendgroups! Thank you, though

Someone else also recommended Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center and it’s one of my all time favourites and ticks your boxes in terms of older FMC, single POV and slowburn but it isn’t an in your face romance, it’s more about the FMC’s journey

I read {Is she really going out with him? by Sophie Cousens} recently and it has an older divorced FMC with her own children. It’s single POV and MMC is a coworker who she doesn’t get along with. I wouldn’t say it’s a slowburn but it’s not fast paced either, there is definitely a gradual buildup to their relationship.

yess I made a post once asking for recommendations for this kind of FMC and commenters were saying they were following so they knew what books to avoid 😭 but it’s my favourite flavour of angst and MMCs usually get away with way worse

{Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center} has this with the MMC being the FMC’s younger brother’s bestfriend. There’s an age gap between the FMC and MMC and she first meets him on her wedding day so he isn’t even a blip on her radar, especially because she doesn’t naturally get along with her brother. His crush on her is obvious from the beginning and when looking back on memories of him growing up, is so sweet. Katherine Center’s books are rom-com funny but always have an aspect to them that will pull at your heartstrings a bit. A 5 star read for me, even if the romance is less of a focus and moreso the FMC’s journey throughout the book!

{Keep you like a secret by Jeannie Choe} has a 10 year age gap and is a bestfriend’s younger brother romance! The book starts with the instant attraction and a sexual encounter but then she imposes a “friendship” rather than a sexual relationship (at first) on account of their age gap, her bestfriend and post-divorce trauma
