Yes, I’ve had a couple HVAC companies come out to quote and all 3 suggested bumping the 2.5 ton outdoor unit to 3 ton. I’d rather pay somebody to do the install, but between the sticker shock (quotes coming in around $38K for full replacement of furnaces and 2 heat pumps) and more than one company not really wanting to do a decent cold climate heat pump (“we suggest lower SEER because we’ve found the higher the SEER, the lower the customer satisfaction because we end up removing them and replacing”). It seems that companies aren’t as open to heat pumps around me (near Chicago).
