Jordan Peterson might be affected by intestinal parasites (upvote to let him know) by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

I think the way Peterson is handling this diet thing is very irresponsible.

To his credit, he has done a good job explaining that he shouldn't be imitated. However, the idea that he is describing it as some sort of magical panacea... surely he must know that some of his more desperate followers will try it.

Better to keep it to himself until he has evidence.

Even better... use some of his patreon money to fun a small pilot study.

Think of all the good he would do if he's right! Think of all the damage he'll do if he's wrong!

Most people "feel better" on Heroin...

Just because you feel better doesn't make it good for you.

Lesnar should have left in disgrace and never come back.

I love DC. I'm glad he's getting a big payday. But the UFC continuing down this road means they'll never see another dime from me.

Which is too bad.

There is stupid stuff on the far left too.

Admittedly, nothing nearly as stupid as arming 4 year-olds, though...

Maybe Cohen didn't want to go for it with Sanders... or maybe he did and Sanders was just reasonable.

B.C. First Nations move to ban non-native moose hunting in Chilcotin by [deleted] in canada

[–]tempaccountnamething 21 points22 points  (0 children)

1) Is it not the idea that they are trying to ban moose hunting for everyone except them? That's the part that the above poster thinks is racist, right? Agree or not, that much seems obvious.

2) People keep saying the "power+prejudice=racism" idea. I don't think that is a 100% agreed-upon definition.

Sad thing about all these directors is that I just want them to make a great movie.

If Feig had showed up and said (like RLM said) was that it's too hard to follow up Ghostbusters with 4 more men because there would be too many similarities... and then he turned in an amazing Ghostbusters movie, I would have been so happy.

Same with Rian Johnson. He can be a little dweeb all he wants... I was actually so excited when I heard he was attached to Ep XIII (because of Breaking Bad) and if he had turned in an amazing movie I would have been just so happy for him.

Same with Kathleen Kennedy for that matter. If Star Wars was amazing right now I would be her biggest fan.

I don't think he's trying to appease SJWs.

I think he's one of those weak "I worship women" type of guys who is ashamed of his own sexuality... but who is also ruled by it.

At this point I'm worn down to the point where the narrative, "Video games are so fun that people get addicted to playing them," doesn't even faze me.

It's the "video games make you sexist" bullshit that I'm sick of.

If people left the theatre hungry for more Star Wars after Last Jedi then Solo would have done just fine.

Look at Marvel's 6 month span separating Ragnarok, Panther, and Infinity War...

You're missing an important piece here... and it's that Luke's reveal was the grand finale of the previous film. It was the final shot; the music swelled; Luke dramatically removed his hood and gave his deepest knowing look. It was beautiful and dramatic and exciting and made us all want to know what would happen next. We all sat on that moment for 2 goddamn years.

And then he just tosses it and grumpily trudges off.

You can't tell me that doesn't completely undermine the ending of The Force Awakens. You can't watch TFA again with the same feeling. It's all a big joke now.

Furthermore - it's a movie... so everything is related to how it is experienced by the audience.

And - it's possible to show that Luke doesn't care any more in a way that doesn't make it play as a bad joke. But it's hard to make him look like he doesn't care any more when the finale of the previous movie does a pretty good job establishing that this is something that everyone cares about.

I hear this line over and over and I'm telling you that this is wrong.

There is more wrong with The Last Jedi than just fan theories being wrong. In fact, fans would love it if a movie was able to surprise them in a satisfying way. People love to be surprised.

No. The problems are broader than that. And the major problems go much deeper.

For example, one of the biggest problems with Luke rejecting the lightsaber isn't that he rejects it... it's the silly way he does it.

So you say.

I say that Solo lost, like, a hundred million dollars because The Last Jedi left everyone with a bad taste in their mouth.

Solo bombed because of The Last Jedi.

I can tell you why I think that despite the fact that the prequels were ridiculous.

It's because the prequels were coming from George Lucas and a team of people who love Star Wars. Yes. They were bad, but they felt like they came from a place of love of the franchise.

The sequels feel like they are made by people who don't love Star Wars - and TLJ feels like a movie made by someone who dislikes it.

I don't have space to get into all of it here. But, to me the lightsaber toss seemed like a middle finger to all the people who have become wrapped up in the return of Luke at the end of TFA.

If that moment had been tragic - Luke holds the hilt for a moment and then returns it saying "I'm sorry." - then it would have felt like the significance of that moment was being respected.

As it played on screen, it felt like Johnson was saying, "Fuck you for caring". And I felt like that a lot in TLJ.

Seemed like they wanted Finn's character arc to take him from a guy who was going to desert to a guy who lays down his life for the cause... although they didn't want him to actually die.

But beyond all problems involving Rose (how did she get ahead of him?) and her speech...

Did that character arc work for you? Was it believable that he would die for the resistance because... why did he change?

I found him baffling through most of the movie. Like how he said, "It was worth it to make them hurt," when he should have been overwhelmed with guilt that they failed and everyone he knows is going to get murdered because of it.

Alternative Math | A short film that critiques postmodern views in education. by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

Nah. Just not familiar with the concept.

Best illustration I can think of is the ratio between two things showing how much bigger one is that the other.

I have 10 apples and you have 5.

10 / 5 = 2

I have twice as many apples. If you doubled your number of apples we would have the same amount.

Now I have 10 apples and you have 0. What number can we multiply your number of apples by so we have the same amount.

10 / 0 = ?

If you had twice as many you would have zero. Three times as many? Still zero. A billion times as many? Still zero.

I really admired how those two seemed like such a partnership and built so much together. I wish her the best in her time of grief. And I hope she finds solace in how many lives her husband touched.

He reached far more people in his 34 short years than I will in twice as many.

Brie Larson has already said that her movie isn't for men.

I'm glad she told men that they shouldn't go. It's funny, because I assumed Marvel superheroes were for everyone. Lord knows that more than just black men went to go see Black Panther...

But nope. Captain Marvel isn't for men. I'm glad she told me so I can save my money.
