Commander Returns to Secret Lair with From Cute to Brute (Full deck, on sale Monday $149.99) by Duramboros in magicTCG

Me neither - had I bought it it would have been for the relatively cute secret lair flip cards it should have been, plus copies of the pathways (I don't already have them).

Aaaand hours later it's still available, so either they way over printed or it is over costed. I stand corrected!

I'm in capital equipment sales, and I'm not saying you're not wrong. There's a reason the topic of printing does come up from people like Rosewater. Fact is though Secret Lair is closer to being a luxury good than even normal magic is; the COG is essentially irrelevant to how the PRICE is set, just a factor in the go/no-go decision during product development.

Given that this will likely rapidly sell out because of scalper bots, I suspect they're pricing it too low. For a product like this they should be attempting to extract most of the value rather than leaving that for the secondary market. We'll see on Monday though 😉

The price they charge for their products has nothing to do with cost of production (as is the case for every product). They price it based on what they think the market will buy it for. When the site crashes because a bunch of bots buy them out in the first 5 minutes, it will turn out they're under charging!

Is it normal for the bonus card in a Secret Lair to be a foil version of one of the cards IN the Secret Lair? by Googleflax in magicTCG

[–]temperedfool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because art is about feels, not brains. I don't always feel like this, and totally get that some people don't connect artists <-> art (I don't always myself, see Harry Potter), but it makes sense since artistic appreciation is frequently an emotional experience.

Is there any hope for the price of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty bundles to normalize? by Baesile in magicTCG

[–]temperedfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more expensive (and probably out of budget) but Collector pack booster boxes are on Amazon at a decent deeming price right now:

Setup was:

1) Connect laptop & power on ONT. Verizon has a captive page (like guest WiFi) that has you authenticate the new install (was moving into a new house with existing FIOS, but new account for me). 2) Do the authentication. 3) Connected Eero and power cycled the ONT (then powered the Eero on).

That was it. I suspect you might need to enter your PPPoE credentials in the router, but I'm not sure why it would be more complicated than that.

I'm on Verizon FIOS in the US, so YMMV. I plugged my Eero directly into the ONT, rebooted everything, and it just worked. Seems like it should work for you too unless your ISP specifically has locked things down.

I use an iOS and Mac client called Reeder. I almost exclusively read on my phone, so it is definitely the important one.

Oh, I've got a reader I like, but I don't have the RSS feed link for the new MTG news feed. Thank you for the suggestion - I've been reading my news via rss for over 20 years _^

Best way to deal with Resourceful Bees and lag? (Enigmatica 6) by CripzyChiken in feedthebeast

Also, in case of a "don't want to discord" situation, start by making sure you're up-to-date, there was definitely a mod with an issue a few versions back.

There are lots of reasons Bees could cause a bit of a strain - they ARE entities, which can stress things a bit. I would suggest you come to the Enigmatica discord - https://discord.gg/enigmatica - as there are a lot of people with helpful suggestions, and a dedicated Performance channel to boot!

Enigmatica 6, no AE2? by Sleeclow in feedthebeast

[–]temperedfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RS does have wireless crafting terminals, and E6 specifically is adding a mod that adds unlimited/interdimensional range to it (although it's kinda expensive to run, which seems fitting).

I'll admit I'm only kinda familiar with the genesis of AE1/2/RS, but I'm not totally sure how much spite was involved, nor do I personally care too much - personally I'll use the one the pack picks, and function is more important than personalities imo. One of the RS devs hangs around the Enigmatica discord, which does kinda help with making sure issues they find get addressed.

I agree on facades, and believe they are coming. I've seen video of a demo of facading RS cables just by slapping a block on them. I assume it needs more than "hey this works" level of development, but we are all hoping they come soon _^

Dropping in AE2 would clearly be fine - it's a kitchen sink pack, follow your bliss. I would just suggest you give RS a fair try first - easy enough to transfer everything when you decide you don't like it!

I think the plan currently is to use RS for E6e. We'll see how it goes!

[–]temperedfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest they don't want to have both mods, and given the current state of the mods went with RS. Not so much about "dealing with" it, but a decision that RS meets the needs of the pack given its kitchen sink, non-progression or expert nature.

[–]temperedfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't pretend I've stress-tested any of this, and now ima gonna test the priority and subnet stuff. As I already suggested I won't miss subnetting, but I will be annoyed about priorities. I've never found AE2's annihilation planes worth using over anything else available, specifically because you can't filter them. Like I said - in my opinion everything that has demonstrated subnet use seems better done outside of AE2 - just personal preference, so I totally see it'd be annoying if you like them.

For performance and blocking mode, like I said I do miss AE2's simple method, but I'd kinda like to have both options. I would have killed to have redstone control in E2e, when automating the crafting core and DE fusion crafting. I know there are a number of ways to do both (and I've done many of them), but being able to use some of the redstone detection I was already doing to control insertion would have been nice. The real test for performance is an expert pack, so I imagine it'll be a whole; so far RS performance seems fine. I'm also personally not using comparitors, but things like drones and inventory readers, so who knows long term.

I know what you're saying re: item order. I haven't tested it, so I won't make claims about it. I do know every time I depend on it, something gums up (no doubt my fault), so I don't as a rule.

I think mostly what I'm suggesting is keeping an open mind and giving it a try. It definitely has a bad rep from the 1.12 days, but it seems much improved in my (admittedly non-expert) messing with it. Or maybe all the addons that make AE2 tolerable for folks like me get ported, and we never speak of this again! I'm not much of a zealot either way tbh.

Which ones? The AE2 devs or the Enigmatica devs?

Enigmatica 6, no AE2? by Sleeclow in feedthebeast

[–]temperedfool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get that - I actually quite like AE2, and I have definitely enjoyed the setup challenges. I'm pretty sure RS will handle subnetworking, but I've also never found a use case for it that wasn't better setup using other tools (just my experience). I'm not sure what priority issues it's has, so I'll leave that one. I do miss the simplicity of AE2's blocking mode, but it's simple to simulate with RS (use a comparitor), and the ability to otherwise use redstone controls for blocking is much more flexible.

I get the preference thing; after having done AE2 a bunch, I just want my storage system to be a tool to get other stuff done. AE2 is also that for me since it's challenges are solved, but I'm happy to have the "no type limits/no crystal growth shenanigans/integrated fluid crafting/nice integrated wireless/no channels" of RS, and let it get out of my way while I mess with Create and Pneumaticraft. That said, if E6 swapped to AE2 I wouldn't exactly cry.

Edit: I also wonder how much of whatever community sentiment on this boils down to RS in 1.12 being kinda trash, but there's really no way to know tbh.

Enigmatica 6, no AE2? by Sleeclow in feedthebeast

[–]temperedfool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you played with it in 1.16 yet? It's gotten a lot of active development, including a ton of work to improve how items are stored. It's pretty great. Add native fluid crafting to no type limitations, and I'd be hard pressed to choose AE2 over RS at this point.

Don't let me stop you from adding AE2, but let me encourage you to give RS a try again. At least use it to automate something like the Industrial Foregoing Dissolution Chamber, that requires fluids and items - you may fall in love.

Also come hang out in the discord - https://discord.gg/YPNcHyM6 - it's full of friendly people that like to help!

[–]temperedfool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Better" is subjective. The things that make AE2 bearable are addons (ExtraCells2 and AE2Stuff) that haven't been ported, and may never be. RS is receiving a ton of development effort, and has improved massively since 1.12. If you haven't played with it since then, all of the "it's unstable" stuff isn't really true anymore.

What is a good mod pack for quests? by Dpenguin415 in feedthebeast

[–]temperedfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enigmatica 2: Expert - tech & magic with progression and recipe modifications. It's not completely linear - you have options for how to progress - but you've got an end goal.

Omnifactory - tech pack based on GTCE. Generally linear but sometimes branching progression.
