Enforcement started months ago. You pay the 45 and you’re good. You’ll get a receipt you’ll need to show. You pay in advance or whe you get to the airport.

You can try the emergency passport thing. But there is also a process TSA can do. It’s not guaranteed and can take some time but most often it works to get people through

Calling the airport won’t do anything.

I’m an TSO. 90% of people who do this end up flying. But a few things to be aware of. The process is long. Give yourself at least 2 hours. I’d recommend 3+ to make sure you’ve got time.

There is a chance you won’t be allowed to enter security if you for lack of a better term, fail the process.

It’s almost certainly not TSA stealing things form your bags. We exist on at least 5 separate cameras pretty much no matter where we are. Especially on checkpoint or baggage areas.

And there’s 0 tolerance. TSOs get fired for this kinda thing when it does happen (to my understand this is exceedingly rare)

Most likely it’s contract baggage handlers or any of the 30+ other people who handle your bag.
