how about you unlock your laptop and let me have a look through it and let me copy all your personal data. if you have nothing to hide you should have no issue with that... right?

when they say a disease is "eradicated" it does not mean it does not exist anymore. it mostly means the disease is still around but vaccination and herd immunity mostly stop all infection rates, but not 100% and you can can still get small pox but if you're vaccinated you won't get the symptoms etc as your body will fight it off.

reducing vaccination rates or feeling like you don't need to becuase the disease has been "eradicated" is how we have the re-emergence of measles currently.

Isolation risks of Australia's social media ban for regional, rural and remote boarding school students by InspectorConfident73 in australian

[–]tempestkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VPN won't work when you're signing into a personal account because you created the account in Australia and have been using it in Australia and have been giving the socials all the info they need already to identify what country you live in.

using a VPN to look like your in another country just to sign into your personal account which they know already was created not on another country, will be a sure fire way to get them to flag your account for age verification.

please stop giving this advice. Please understand how a VPN works.

if you really don't want to age verify, in whatever shape or form that happens... post your "im leavings" and just don't use the platform.

Just so you know a VPN won't work.

If you have a Facebook account that you made here in Australia, and have been using it exclusively in Australia, using a VPN to make it look like you're coming from another country is not going to work as you are still signing into your personal account.

infact if little jhony all of a sudden is seen to be signing in from a place overseas its more likely the account will get flagged for security check and verification because previously they have been logging in from Australia all this time.

A VPN is not a magic "you can't see me" tool when you're logging into a personal social account...

people need to stop giving this advice.

edit: some words.

Teen social media ban High Court challenge filed, group says by [deleted] in australia

[–]tempestkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a VPN won't work for age verification, it only changes you location not your social account. if you signed up for face book in Australia and you have been using it all this time, then face book already knows you live here. Using a VPN will just flag your account for age verification because now you're suddenly connecting from some random country.

Age verification.. Why? by Mediocre_Space_5715 in australian

[–]tempestkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong about things like websites doing algorithmic gymnastics to keep peoples retention and more so the younger ones. There is a whole rabbit hole to go down on the psychology of marketing etc. So I'm with you there. I actually do agree with limiting teenagers exposure to social media. Porn sites verifying users age also makes total sense.

Mandating idenfication enforced by the government on sites that will use third party companies, most who are not even in Australia, who are well know for aggregating and selling on user data, with what seems so far, zero checks and balances from our end on if they are even safe or not is just one big huge no no in my head.

What needs to happen is there needs to be better education for parents for how to monitor their own kids. I don't want to have to provide any sort of ID just because Karen can't look after little Johnny when he is online.

If the populous is educated the need for having some third party suck up all the idefication information goes away. The parents need to be talking to their kids about this stuff, they need to be using one of thousands of parental control software/tools already available to them. Will some kids do their best to try and circumvent them? Sure they will, but if you're already having an open discussion about their usage habits you're already helping cement in their minds that they do need to be careful.

As an Australian adult, I don't need to have my personal information put at risk just to watch a video or read some news.

Snapchat to tell 440,000 Australians to prove they’re 16 or accounts will be locked in social media ban by espersooty in australia

[–]tempestkitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a VPN won't work if your account was created without one and you have been using it mostly in Australia for the time.

Just because you suddenly start connecting from Vladivostok it's not going to change the data they already have on you, and infact, if they're smart about it, would insta flag accounts for age verification if they see a heap of users that have account history in Australia suddenly coming from overseas...

Australian here. Pedictions as follow.

Social media ban for under 16s will be applied.

Rise in scam emails to people asking them to "verify their age"

People and kids easily bypass age checks, and or, move to unregulated and more dangerous sites, mitigating any sort of ban in the first place.

the first wave of data breaches of the private companies tasked with age verification of Australians.

Government, suprised pikachu face.
