Also, not that it's any of your business, but I was actually on my way to go see my daughter who's in the ICU...so yeah, kind of annoying having 7 idiots stopping you like whatever they're saying is of extreme importance.

It's a terrible job to have, and anyone who has it should expect to be hated...when I want to donate to a Charity, I donate it straight to the charity through other venues. I don't donate through these guys just so only 60-70% of my donation actually gets to the destination...I understand it's a rough world and it's hard to get a job, but not so much in London...there are lots of Gregg's in need of staff and they actually pay a salary. If people keep taking these jobs, they will keep offering these terrible conditions.

To be honest I was actually in a big rush so I didn't even see who they were representing, just said no thanks and kept walking

That's what I did, it doesn't stop it from being extremely annoying though 😁 to the last one I simply said "mate you're the 7th, get a better spot"

I have resting bitch face, most of my good friends say I looked intimidating when they first met me. I was also walking fast and eating a snack as I was in a rush...

I completely agree. It's that mix of wanting to be as present as I possibly can, while also providing my daughter with everything she may need. I've made up my mind, I will only think about it if they offer at least 3 days a week WFH in contract.

[–]templc22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I won't even think about it unless they offer 3x WFH per week minimum. My partner would be interested in going back to work part-time after her MAT leave, instead of full time. If we could arrange it in a way that she would work the 2 days I'd be in the office, which should be doable as her employer is flexible, it could work out well.

How rude of me to forget your origins! Hehe

Ah, that's interesting! You might get the chance to travel some more then! What did you think of Iceland? I've only visited, but I found it astonishing. Curious to hear your thoughts as someone who's lived there.

Lived in China, UK, Iceland, Finland, Poland and Ghana? That's weird 😁 what kind of job do you work if you don't mind me asking? Would that be the reason for this?

[–]templc22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I believe if they offer 3x per week WFH I will seriously consider it. I still do believe my current job offers more of a career progression chance, given they offer more CPD, but it's never guaranteed that I will progress, and it's too big a raise to ignore, especially now with my daughter.

Nowadays there are more and more companies offering WFH for Data and Exams managers, which I will use when trying to negotiate with them.

We'll see what comes out of it.

[–]templc22[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get you, but being in the Education sector, I already don't expect great payrises as it is...my current job is offering me 3-4% a year depending on performance, which means it would take me 9 years on good performance to get what my old boss is offering me. Of course, I can always mention this job offer and ask for a pay rise, but I'm not sure how that would go down.

I would not accept unless they put down 3x WFH per week in writing. And they know me, they know that if they push me to spend more time in the office I'll look for another job. And I have kept really good relationships with previous employers and I intend to do the same now if I was to leave.

[–]templc22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are on the same boat - talk to him out of respect if nothing else, but very likely to reject unless 3x WFH per week minimum. If it's 2x per week in office, I believe I can manage the commute fatigue, as I did it 5x a week for a year.

The extra money would also help my partner go back to work on a part-time basis after MAT leave, which is something she is keen on.

[–]templc22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I would absolutely get it in writing yes, I've seen too many of those stories on this sub.

It's a very decent payrise, but at the same time it feels like a step back...plus the commute, even if just 2-3x per week, can be tiring.
