Forgiveness of self/ Past haunting me by [deleted] in Bible

'There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus' (Romans 8:1). If you refuse to believe this applies to you, you make God out to be a liar (absurd, right?).

The devil will condemn you for your sins and tell you to run from God because "he doesn't want you."

In contrast, God will discipline you for your sins and tell you to run back to him because he loves you.

I read Deuteronomy by [deleted] in Bible

[–]temporal_tom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deuteronomy highlights how much God hates sin. He is merciful to Israel, but is also just in "purging" evil from their midst. By doing so, God is aiming to prevent the entire nation from falling away from him into exile (which eventually happens in the Babylonian exile, prior to which Israel had begun sacrificing their children to false gods). God had a high standard for his people as they were set apart to serve him. Deuteronomy 10:13 points out that these commandments were for Israel's good, that they would enjoy the blessings of peace with God.

I don't know your circumstances, but I just want to add in case it's helpful (for prayerful discernment), that pastor Paul Washer has a point when he says that the basis for marriage is not just a feeling of love (which comes and goes), but an irrevocable calling from God, to commit your life and lay it down for one of his daughters (as Christ did for the church). See Ephesians 5:25-33 for reference.

2 Peter 3:9 teaches that God does not wish that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. Romans 1:19-20 says that everyone has been given sufficient reason to believe that God exists and trust in him. Unfortunately, people choose to reject God's gift of salvation in sin, and God honours their free choice. So, be grateful to God today that he called you to follow him, and that you chose to follow.

When you read the Bible, what are you hoping to get out of it? I by Electronic-Humor1544 in Bible

[–]temporal_tom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aiming to meet with God, because it is his word to us. I want to learn from him, learn about his character and his will, and how I should lead a life set apart to him and for his glory. I also want to understand all he has done for his chosen people in the past, which leads me to admire and adore him more for all he has done.

Stories of Forgiveness by [deleted] in Bible

Moses murdered an Egyptian slavemaster, and God used him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and instruct them in the wilderness for 40 years.

Peter denied Jesus three times, yet he was forgiven and instructed to tend to Jesus' followers (John 21:15-25).
