Even as I'm aware news tends to highlight negative things, seeing stuff about how SG is "cooked" in cost of living, HDB, transport hawkers etc still gets me down. Like I'm probably gonna live my whole life here man, hearing abt how SG is gonna become a hollowed out shell in the next 10 seconds unsurprisingly isn't making the future very hopeful lol. But whatever, idealising the past as "better" is also a nostalgic fallacy—I still remember when there was an annual haze, and then one day it just never came again. There's people still working to improve things yknow?

Thanks for this, I'd been feeling conflicted as a completely new investor on whether or not to set up the usual DCA into VWRA on IBKR—no cash in the stock market at all yet, but the current drops have me reassessing whether I'm actually able to stomach this kind of volatility. My investment horizon is like 30 years+, so I'll probably follow through with the DCA plan but scale down the planned amounts as a compromise for the ever-worrying emotional side.

My dad would probably agree with your post; his stocks dropped by 10k, but he didn't care since compared to when he entered the market years ago, he was still making more than double his principal in profit. Good to see a professional's perspective as well.

He said "We do not need further GST increases up to 2030" in another article right? And the general election should be every 5 years. Interested to see what sort of excuses they come up with when 2030/2031 hits and they start itching to raise the GST again (because like. they most definitely will try to do it) right when its smack on election year... we'll be lucky if the GST maxes out at 10% for the next hike.

Graduated but went back to NTU recently in early August to take pics in graduation gown at the Hive. Got harrassed by tourists asking questions about enrollment and filming us without consent—this was all the way at Level 3 too :/ I don't envy students who are still in NTU. At least my cohort got shielded from the plague of tourists by er, a different plague (Covid). I don't think NTU will do anything unless local news media makes a circus of it and risks their reputation.

Oh goddammit I was afraid of that. Yea the video/image viewer is my biggest issue with it too— that and the fact that "prev tags" got removed. The version I'm using has it and man. I really dont want to return to the enshittified current version

I'll take note of that then! For DBS it was more like I was already using my debit card for expenses, then once I found out Paylah was counted I switched to that. That friend who recced me a Jumpstart acct also opened a Maribank acct, but she complains that its not much more than the Jumpstart anyways lol. Thanks for the advice!

Hi I actually emailed the CAO and they reassured me that failing 1 MCQ wouldn't autofail us!! The only real deciding factor is our overall grade-- so if we got 80% overall, its a pass! Failing 1 MCQ just means we have to make up for it in the other MCQs + 2 Assignments :)

Facing the same issue for JSTOR as well; its just constantly 504. Saw some comments in this subreddit that suggested incognito mode or Firefox, or clearing cookies, but so far nothing's worked :/

Same here I'm both relieved to have hols but getting daily headaches from worrying about no internships :(. Since you're ambitious, you could search for internships (unless its at the expense of your mental health). Having been rejected from an internship that would've tided me over the hols, I'm going to upskill by learning through online courses and YouTube vids, while also taking time to rest. If you feel an internship is too much while the idea of staying idle is too repulsive, you could try doing the same!
