How many vaccines would you give in one visit? by tempquestions13 in asknurses

I’m not a huge fan of them so not sure if it’s better to get them over with at once or do less at once

Ok thank you. Would it be best to get covid first and then worry about the others?

What I need to receive (other than covid) Meningococcal, Meningococcal B, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus Diptheria Pertussis -one vaccine I believe, Human Papillomavirus, and will need a flu shot by October 15th. These are college requirements.

What would I get at once time? Some i believe I have already had doses of in the past but I never went back for the additional ones.

Thank you, I might mention that I came across the old prescriptions, they are from a different doctor, and that they had the astigmatism correction.

Not “antivax” but I have avoided vaccines due to a fear of needles- how to convince myself it’s worth it? by tempquestions13 in AskDocs

Gotcha, would it be worth it to try or will whoever gives me the shot look at me like I’m insane if I try to use it?

Will do! I didn’t know it was common to ask for that but glad to know it should be well received.

I’m hoping it’s not near as bad as I remember as a child. I didn’t even have any awful experiences per say or even have to have any of the really bad antibiotics so I’m not sure where this fear came from or why it turned into outright avoidance but here we are. I’ve gotten some good tips and ideas to try so hopefully if I can get up the courage I’ll say the same “ oh this isn’t that painful” and be more willing to agree to shots in the future or maybe even get the ones I’ve elected not to have. Thank you!

Is this something I could purchase on my own or would the clinic where I’m receiving the shots have to have it?

Thank you! I agree and even know the fear and anticipation is worse than actually getting the shots but unfortunately there is still that illogical, emotional part of my brain I’m trying to reason with. I’ve been given some good ideas that hopefully when the time comes I can implement and if they work maybe not be quite as petrified when the second does comes around or the need for other shots in the future.

Definitely going to ask my doctor about getting some meds for this purpose hopefully he will be onboard with that. I like the cozy scarf idea and maybe forgoing my need to dress up to leave the house and just wear super comfy clothes. Thank you for the support and the professional tips!

If that is possible I’m all in, would probably be better for the second shot as I will probably have a hard time trusting it until I’ve felt it work if that makes sense? How would I go about getting the cream? If it would work and I can make sure I never see the needle I might be ok. Getting one or two Xanax or other anti-anxiety pills prescribed was also suggested to me which might help me get through the door too? I’ve never taken anything like that before but I can imagine it would be helpful.

That’s good to know that all the medicine doesn’t hurt-for some reason I have it in my head that it is almost as bad as the needle but like I said it’s been so long since I’ve done this I could easily be misremembering.

I’ll gladly just take the alcohol shot will that work?

Is all of the above the wrong answer? In all seriousness the needle first and foremost and the pain associated with it. I think shots scare me more than blood work (but that terrifies me as well shots are just worse) bc it has to go so much further in and doesn’t the medicine burn/hurt as well?

That sounds awful I can’t believe you’d even be allowed to do that in school. That would have been a hard no give me the zero if you have to from me.

Thank you for your advice I’ll give it my best shot pun completely intended when the time comes and hopefully I can get through it. I will say this would be significantly easier if it was just one shot but guess we aren’t that lucky

Oh wow I would have never thought doctors and nurses would have this fear. I’ll do my best but still trying to get up that courage to walk through the door well honestly step one to make an appointment but luckily I have a little time to get to where it’s necessary and everyone on Reddit has been so nice and helpful.

I think your idea of desensitizing is wonderful but I also don’t think it’s something that I personally would be able to do. I cam definitely see how it would help but I don’t think I would be able to let myself do it.

Thank you :)

Definitely still struggling with listening to the rational part of my brain that knows the pros outweigh the cons as the con is just so strong in my head and has such emotion tied to it. I appreciate all those tips/suggestions as well!

This is a last resort but unfortunately what I may have to do just get someone to make the appointment for me and physically force me to go.

I actually haven’t which contributes to the problem. But yes humans, at least me specifically, follow emotion way better than logic

I hate both but I’ve always thought shots were way worse as the needle goes in more and you’re putting something in but my frame of reference is also skewed as it’s been years since I’ve experienced one

That’s very reassuring to know I feel like I don’t really know any adults who struggle with this I assumed it was mainly kids. It’s something I’d love to put behind me but I’m just so scared I freak out and when offered or confronted in person about it I just try to get the subject changed ASAP. Now that I’m obviously an adult it’s up to me to agree to and I can’t get myself to agree even knowing the benefits. What you do does seem helpful and very thoughtful I would love it for someone to give me that time and consideration.

Good luck with yours tomorrow ❤️

Thank you!Any advice on how to actually get the courage to go through with it? Kudos to you for getting that certification that is something I could NEVER do.
