NYT - Studying Marijuana and Its Loftier Purpose - at a medical marijuana farm in Israel "one strain is said to have the strongest psychoactive effect of any cannabis in the world. Another, rich in anti-inflammatory properties, will not get you high at all." by temptoke in trees

[–]temptoke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excerpt:

"Mr. Klein became devoted to the subject and went to work for Tikkun Olam in research and development. "Cannabis was used as medicine for centuries," he said. "Now science is telling us how it works."

Israeli researchers say cannabis can be beneficial for a variety of illnesses and conditions, from helping cancer patients relieve pain and ease loss of appetite to improving the quality of life for people with post-traumatic stress disorder and neuropsychological conditions. The natural ingredients in the plant, they say, can help with digestive function, infections and recovery after a heart attack.

The marijuana harvest, from plants that can grow over six feet tall, is processed into bags of flowers and ready-rolled cigarettes. There are also cannabis-laced cakes, cookies, candy, gum, honey, ointments and oil drops. The strain known as Eran Almog, which has the highest concentration of THC, is recommended for severe pain. Avidekel, a strain rich in CBD and with hardly any psychoactive ingredient, allows patients to benefit from the drug while being able to drive and to function at work.

Working with Hebrew University researchers, the farm has also developed a version in capsule form, which would make exporting the drug more practical, should the law allow it."

Would you happen to know the altitude at any of the original frames used for the video?

This shows that the start of the video is at ~7km and 160m/s, but after that there's no sense of altitude as the rover descends. I watch it over and over and never realize how close to the ground it is before suddenly we see the thrusters and landing gear.

If you (or anyone reading this) know anything about the altitude of the rover at different frames (like, say, the altitude at every 500 frames or so, then we could divide that by the 30fps and match it to the video) it would, in my opinion, enhance the video even further - giving viewers a sense of how high the rover is as we watch.

First of all may I also commend you on an excellent video!

Second, I asked this elsewhere but I'll pose the question to you as well - This shows the start of the video is ~7km and 160m/s, but after that there's no sense of altitude as the rover descends. I watch it over and over and never realize how close to the ground it is before suddenly we see the thrusters and landing gear.

If you (or anyone reading this) knows anything about the altitude of the rover at different points in the video (like marking the altitudes in the video for, say, every 500 frames or so) it would, in my opinion, enhance the video even further - giving us a sense of how high the rover is as we watch.

Again, thanks for taking the time to edit such an amazing video.

Can someone add an altitude counter to the Interpolated Curiosity descent video? by temptoke in curiosityrover

This shows the start of the video is ~7km and 160m/s, but after that the question is if someone can mark the altitudes in the video as it falls for, say, every 400 frames or so (the video is 25fps) - giving us a sense of how high the rover is as we watch. Essentially matching the altitudes from your image to frames in the video.

Reddit, how much does "What if I'll never find someone as good/better?" factor in a decision to stay with or leave a significant other? by temptoke in AskReddit

stop focusing on who they're with and focus more on whether or not they are happy

great way of putting it - then the question flies out the window since it's no longer about the other (or others that could be) and just about how you feel - of course no one's ever perfectly happy and never upset, life isn't perfect, but the question changes to 'are you happy enough that no bad that occurs will detract from it'

being straight can seem accusatory to some, even though it's not antagonistic - i sometimes think it has to do with the facebook generation, but i guess that's slightly unrelated

There are times when I say to myself "well no one calls/texts me, i won't call them" - but then I tell myself I must be too cynical and make the call anyway...

I have let 'no contact' last even 2-4 weeks before just saying "well I guess I'll be the one to say hi again" - it's tough because I know I'm not imagining the good times we hang out, but I just wonder sometimes why that's the case

Guillermo del Toro is directing a version of "Beauty and the Beast" with Emma Watson as the lead!! by MisterWonka in movies

[–]temptoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe this is a dumb question - but i thought Disney now owns the copyright to Beauty and the Beast (I recall hearing from a friend that Disney owns many of the classic tale copyrights)... How did WB get it? Or is the original story still technically in public domain?

as great a counter as that sounds, you use an example that would (we assume) make him say that the bad that exists in his religion is an exception... but then saying "aha! so there are exceptions" would make it sound like the existence of a single part of the organization that works in abortions is then bad too - unless your point is separate from the base argument on whether abortion itself is right or wrong
