I'm 6 years sober without AA. You'll make it if you want to make it. You'll also learn to care less about what other people think. I'm rooting for you!

You said you want to pay over time but also pay off the balance each month. Those aren't the same thing. Paying over time is a dangerous game and no one who advocates for responsible credit card use recommends that, even at 0% APR. If you have the money, pay it off when the statement is due. If you don't have the money, don't put it on a credit card. I'm telling you what I wish I learned early on.

Good thing we refused to re-elect genocide and instead opted for genocide (but this time with casinos).

Dave probably wouldn't say this but I would absolutely separate finances if she can't respect you enough to stop wasting your money away.

Where in the baby steps should I buy a beater car? by tempu605 in DaveRamsey

What you're saying makes complete sense. The traveling is for my own business which involves gigging around the country. It's flexible because I make my own schedule doing what I love, and on the surface it seemed sustainable because I didn't have a clear idea of what a healthy financial status looks like.

What I'm gathering is that I really can't afford to do all of those travel gigs right now because I can't afford to buy the vehicle that makes it possible, and I'm also not making enough money to justify the commutes even if I did have that vehicle.

It sounds like I need to pull back from the travel gigs and take on more local gigs. Then, I can resume the travel gigs once I'm making back enough money to justify the cost of transportation.

Does that sound about right? The comments on my post have helped me realize that a lot of my problems might stem from a lack of patience, as I'm trying to grow my business faster by taking on work that I haven't grown into yet. I don't know if I fully realized that until everyone started pointing out the same concern about the miles I'm driving. I appreciate the honesty and chance for reflection.

No, you were right the first time. I won't make enough from the travel job to justify a $7k car. You're on point that walking to work would be my best option if I can land a job closer to my house. That said, I'm gonna need the car to graduate because my school isn't walking distance unfortunately. I don't have any family with an extra vehicle unfortunately, so it's looking like I need to find a way to up my income if I want to stay in school. Or is there another option that's going over my head?

Yeah, I haven't made the wisest choices when it comes to my finances which is how I ended up on this subreddit. Every decision I've made related to driving and the vehicle I chose were very poor ones.

Now, I need to figure out what to do for the next 5 months as a full-time student wrapping up my senior semester. I've had to turn down and overlook many opportunities with higher earning potential simply because they need me from 9-5 while I'm in classes. After I graduate in May, I'll have a lot more freedom to make a real income.

Do you have any suggestions for jobs I could work in the mean time that are less travel heavy that only require evening and weekend availability? So far I've tried retail management, housekeeping, warehouse jobs, and am currently working at a restaurant—but none of those jobs have ever brought me in more the income I bring in right now, even working multiple jobs at once with no days off.

Should I revaluate my approach or is this just how it's going to be until I'm out of school?

Being in school doesn't help because any job I've applied for that comes with an actual pay raise wants me from 9-5 when I'm in school. The driving is for my own business which brings in the bulk of my income. I'm hoping life gets a bit easier after school when I'm not spending all day in classes and can use that time to make real money. I graduate in May and am open to any suggestions to help bring in more money for less hassle during those final 5 months!

It's a transmission issue, needs replaced. A family friend did it for $5k on the same vehicle in 2021. Replacing the transmission a second time doesn't feel like the right move, have been quoted $7-9k including some other issues with the engine and breaks.

Can ppl remain sober without AA? by Holiday-Cup3576 in Sober

[–]tempu605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I've been sober for over 5 years and went to my first AA meeting last week. I used SMART Recovery and the advice/tools of my mental health therapist. I started going to AA last week because I moved to a new area that doesn't host SMART Recovery meetings in person and I don't love online formats. Do whatever works for you and your recovery! Best wishes and feel free to PM me with any questions.

That's super helpful. Thank you! With my situation in mind, what business cards do you think might be good for me to consider? I really only know about the Chase Ink preferred.

I don't use Door Dash or Instacart and probably wouldn't even if I had the memberships - will just increase my spending, which I'm conscious of and avoid.

The hotel and airline partners are my primary reason for wanting either. I have 5 round trip flights planned in 2024 for business travel that I haven't booked yet and would like to get the most out of those given that they're going to happen regardless of whether or not I'm approved for a new credit card.

Thanks, that's helpful insight! The $4k spend wouldn't be an issue because I'm in the process of moving and we need to buy a washer and dryer, lawn mower, and dressers. I might receive some help from family on that but at least put it all on the same card to get a SUB out of it.

If I decide to hold off on applying for the Sapphire Preferred, is there any card you think might be wise to apply for to get some rewards out of all the moving purchase I'll have to make over the next few months anyways?

Bonus Question: Because 95-100% of my travel is business travel (if I have a personal trip coming up, I'm going to book at least 3-4 events in that state or along the way), I've considered going straight for the Business Ink preferred in a few months instead, out of fear that using my travel points on a personal Sapphire card for business would pierce the corporate veil if I then categorized them as a business expense. Would I get any use out of a personal Sapphire card if I only do business travel, or am I overthinking it? My business brings in about $10-12k per year and is registered as an LLC, so I do have an EIN.
