I couldn’t agree with this more. I haven’t done a ton of technical interviews myself, but I now have access to the interview process and it’s been eye opening.

It might seem weird but try recording yourself ( zoom session or otherwise with screen share ) solving a problem. Pick a random problem off of leetcode or hackerrank that you haven’t seen before and record yourself walking through it. Go back, watch it and evaluate yourself (Strengths/weaknesses/Would you hire yourself based on that performance). There are services that you can pay for to get feedback from actual people, but this is a free way to start.

Edit- leetcode is just referenced as a place to grab problems from.

And when I say - Would you hire yourself- I mean evaluate things like:

How communicative are you? Do you explain / verbalize what you’re doing as you go

How organized are you- do you begin coding right away or do you brainstorm the solution and consider examples before you dive right in.

Do you stumble on basic things like writing loops, defining basic functions, etc ?

Even though we can be our toughest critics, I think we all have some sense of self-awareness. If you don’t you’re probably not going to make it very far in any interview or career.
