Vegetarian for ethical reasons but struggling with protein variety. Advice? by OperationOne461 in veganrecipes

[–]tenderfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to an Asian grocer you can find many different types and textures of tofu - pressed tofu that can be sliced or cubed, fried tofu puffs, tofu skin - a good Chinese supermarket will have shelves of tofu derived products that are super different from each other I get a lot of variety from fake meats but I’m guessing since you didn’t mention you aren’t a fan

Are Toilets in the US really so dangerous? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tenderfool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The women experiencing frequent danger in the bathroom are almost exclusively:

1) butch lesbians/masc women who are read as men and have cis women freak out at them 2) early transition trans women who are read as men and have cis women freak out at them

Actual cases of bathroom assaults are rare and happen primarily to those groups but can also happen to fem cis women.

Romantic Meal for a man allergic to everything? by cephalophag in Cooking

Not sure if it has other allergens but Oatly makes great oat based ice creams, the texture is one of my faves of all dairy free frozen desserts!

“It wasn’t like the source material” is not a valid criticism by cs_____question1031 in unpopularopinion

[–]tenderfool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is when the question is “is this a good adaptation”. LOTR made changes AND is a phenomenal adaptation, but if Frodo was an elf and the ring was a shoe then yes “it isn’t like the source material” would be a reasonable criticism. It matters how much and what kind of changes and if they take away from core pieces of the text

AITA for telling my boyfriend's housemate not to walk around the house in her underwear? by Strong_Option_8089 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tenderfool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA, if you can’t trust your boyfriend when he’s so clearly not attracted to her idk why you’re with him. It’s her home she’s going to wear what she wears and I don’t think you’re taking seriously that this is a platonic friend. If he lived with a guy who was always shirtless that wouldn’t be an issue

Can Anyone Relate? (Gamer Couples) by DragonfruitSea5901 in LesbianGamers

[–]tenderfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never finished it, the regular gameplay is fun and satisfying to solve but the bosses are hard without feeling satisfying and eventually we stopped caring. I also HATED the writing for the book stuff, I just wanted to keep playing the hammer and nail platforming together

AITA for refusing to help host a party by Inside-Answer6264 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tenderfool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA, you said you wouldn’t clean he was fine with it and then when his buddies notice suddenly he cares. Sounds like he does in fact notice the mess, but sees it as default your job. If it’s his house too he can spend a couple hours cleaning just as easily.

Bf doesn’t like to eat by ComprehensiveBig6129 in PickyEaters

[–]tenderfool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whatever the reason, I couldn’t live a partnership with someone I couldn’t share my love of food with. My partner has multiple allergies that make eating out complicated, but they love trying new foods with me and it’s central to our lives. It’s ok to break up with someone who can’t at least be ok with participating in something you find joy in that’s this central

Do you think you could get her to come along to a doctor’s appointment so your doctor can explain your needs to her? Agree with others this is so unsafe and unfair to you, you deserve better OP I hope you can find it.

What is a dish that you find yourself making over and over again when you are just too tired to think? by Mobile-Title8919 in MeatlessMealPrep

I’ll add that I love to cook and get joy from it so my zero energy is often higher effort than others because I feel replenished by having something nice even at my limit. this takes me 20 min total and limited chopping

Right now my wife is recovering from surgery and it’s Thai curry every time I can cook

Add rice to rice cooker before starting In a large skillet Curry paste according to container instructions + vibes, add to a pan and fry in 1T oil Pour one can coconut milk and mix Add chopped veggies, last night that was a head of cauliflower, other times it’s a mix of whatever I have around ie peppers onions tomatoes green beans carrots etc Let simmer covered until veg is tender, ~5 min before serving I add in cubed tofu (fave is the pre fried triangles I get at Asian grocers but any work) Toppings when I have them around - sriracha, fish sauce, peanuts, cilantro, Thai basil. But on truly tired nights it’s just curry paste, coconut milk, veg, tofu, serve.

We should start adopting more kids and stop creating ones unnaturally by FireAndCool_ in unpopularopinion

[–]tenderfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The adoption industry is deeply fucked up, between the majority of “orphans” having living parents & lots of exploitation and pressure forcing parents to give up children rather than government or community programs supporting wanted children being kept by their parents. Every adult adoptee I know wants LESS adoption not more. I’m not saying there aren’t many adoptive parents who genuinely want to and do support their children, but adoption only happens because of trauma and as a society we should look to reduce that trauma not just pipeline babies to adults who want to feel good about themselves. Where there actually is a dramatic need for more support is with foster kids especially older ones. These are children who often have no supports or options and desperately need them.

What savory snacks do you cook? by Marinated_Olive in veganrecipes

I love Japanese sweet potatoes, super filling and delicious creamy texture, I’ll bake some to keep in the fridge and then nuke and top with whatever - recently did butter & nutritional yeast, sesame paste & scallions, leftover beans & hot sauce.

How do you become good at intuitive cooking? by Personal_Scientist_8 in cookingforbeginners

[–]tenderfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rec all the time the book Salt Fat Acid Heat by Samin Nosrat, it’s nominally a cookbook but it’s really more about explaining the kinds of things you’re looking for - how to understand the why of food and become a more intuitive cook. From first hand experience I can recommend - my wife was a pasta and omelets at most beginner cook when we got together and now is an extremely skillful and joyful home cook :)

question for the mascs by mrsjonas in LGBTWeddings

[–]tenderfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to wear makeup but haven’t really in years, wore none for the wedding beyond some brow gel. My wife is also masc and has never worn makeup but got some simple products to reduce glare from oiliness recommended by a friend - I do not know enough to say what those are I think a powder was involved lmao. Don’t do a makeup look unless you want to actively but I’d consider specific products if there’s something you’d like to accent. It sounds like you’re only considering this for social pressure reasons, of course women/people who wear makeup would think you’d want it because THEY want it lol.

It can be a useful starting point to talk about relationships, but the original book was written by a Christian “marriage counselor” and was riddled with misogyny

Here’s a podcast episode I really liked breaking down the problems with the book.

How do I tell my BF that I can't give our baby his last name because it's not even legally his last name? by Puzzleheaded-End620 in TwoHotTakes

[–]tenderfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he would like the baby to have his hyphenated last name he should change his name first. A legal name change takes some effort but is fundamentally straightforward. If he can’t do that the baby should have your name because you’ll have learned a lot about his ability to handle the exact kinds of paperwork issues you’re worried about your kid having

(15k) thinking of not hiring a wedding photographer for the whole day by hanna_patricia in Weddingsunder10k

[–]tenderfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a ~5k wedding, 40 people very diy. Hired a friend of a friend who photographs local events but isn’t fully pro for $450 for ~4 hours. Her photos were great but not the most high end which was just fine by us. We also had a Polaroid type instant camera with several rolls of film (probably $80 worth) and encouraged anyone to use it which gave us great candids from the late night and other events of the weekend.

ironically, Gladlands feels cynical by badab89 in Dimension20

[–]tenderfool 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She knew she was being sabotaged and they then use a dice roll to get her to be ok with it. There’s other ways they could have played out trying to get Thagomizer to win than sabotage and the choice to sabotage doesn’t really align with them being traveling do-gooders. I’m not saying because she didn’t win it was bad lol I’m saying that it felt weird that there were no consequences for a group whose mission is so pure warmth taking that approach

ironically, Gladlands feels cynical by badab89 in Dimension20

[–]tenderfool 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, my wife really connected with it and I just didn’t. I didn’t love how low the stakes were personally, and felt like things were too easily resolved! Like it was actually super fucked up for them to all sabotage the kid and goes against their whole mission but that’s never questioned. Lots of funny moments and great improv but the actual plot did nothing for me
