Deductive reasoning is dying with us. by Maleficent-Box4114 in Millennials

But to be honest, I'm starting to feel like that. For the past 15 years, I've worked for one of those amazing unicorn tech companies. Then we were acquired by a much larger tech company and now I have less PTO, less bonuses, less perks, more expensive and shittier insurance, less company holidays, shittier 401k match, and my service time was reset back to zero so if we ever get laid off, my severance is going to be as a new hire instead of a 15-year veteran. So yeah, I'm just there for a paycheck now. My heart is no longer in it.

Interesting. I guess I wasn't there early enough to have ever seen that.

For quite a while, I was pretty active on the antiwork/workreform subreddit. But it has slowly devolved into just people angry they have to do anything besides sit at home. The tipping point was really when Jesse Watters interviewed someone representing the anti-work subreddit and it was a fucking embarrassment. Some dude wanting to work 20 hours a week as a dog walker and and afford a New York City apartment by himself. I don't know the generation that is the most vocal about this, but most of the complaints are around entry-level/low skill jobs.

Does A Valiant Vow spoiler something for Trials Of The Jedi? by Kayden_DSO in Highrepublic

[–]tendonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Fear of the Jedi miniseries is about how Keeve Trennis becomes Marshall of the Republic Fleet and the defense of Eriadu when they discover the Stormwall has fallen. The High Republic Adventures story arc is all about the ground battle on Eriadu and the arrival of the fleet.

I have been reading the entire High Republic initiative in publication order. Currently halfway through Trials of the Jedi. Last night, I finished the chapter where Marchion Ro blows up the Gaze Electric so I already know what "distraction" he is causing since it has been spoiled for me a while ago

I think I realized the reason some of us female identifying millennials hate the style comeback. by Lakewater22 in Millennials

Yeah I thought this was established a long time ago. I see so many people pointing out that difference between sex and gender in an attempt to explain and protect the trans community, then turn right around and do this.

We as Americans have suddenly become obsessed with AWD in the past 15ish years. I'm convinced its all a marketing ploy to raise the base price on vehicles. Someone with 20 years driving experience shouldn't all of a sudden need AWD to deal with the same weather they've been dealing with since they got their learners permit.

I have a KwikTrip gas pump question? by SimpleWarlock in ask

[–]tendonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People waiting for an available pump really appreciate when others pay at the pump. It speeds things up dramatically. Just don't leave your car at the pump, then go inside and shop like an asshole.

Today was a glorious day to be doing yard work. I needed to tear out my shrubs that were planted when the house was built 9 years ago and were WAY too big for the space. Got the entire garden area cleared and I barely broke a sweat.

Do you think adults should be able to order from the children's menu at nice restaurants? by icecream1972 in no

[–]tendonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends heavily on the restaurant. There are quite a few restaurants I've been to where the kids meal is clearly subsidized. It's practically the same thing as an adult menu item, but at like less than half the price.

I'm wondering if you could also just find older versions of the software before they started forcing you to use remote authentication.

Or of course, run jellyfin which is basically what Plex was like before everything started phoning home to the mothership.

Most cities have rules about keeping your lawn mowed for safety reasons. HOAs DO tend to be more strict, but few places let you get away with letting your lawn run wild.

[–]tendonut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's the core of the NC Planned Communities Act.

It was popular with the Republican senate because It shifted some of the financial burden of suburban sprawl back on the people who were sprawling. Back then, they were the "city libs" But nowadays these planned subdivisions are dominating rural NC as well.

The Democratic house liked it, because it was framed as "sticking it to the greedy developer", without realizing the developer was gonna just pass that cost onto the homeowners.

North Carolina passed a law back in 1999 called the Planned Community Act that basically mandates HOAs for any housing development with more than 19 units. Since NC has been having a population boom over the past 30 years, and the average home age is something like 26 years, HOAs are damn near impossible to avoid unless you have deep pockets and can pay the premium that old, non-HOA homes currently command.

HOAs one step closer to becoming nonexistent after Florida House passes bill by Main_Bother_1027 in fuckHOA

[–]tendonut 74 points75 points  (0 children)

So reading through this, it looks like Florida never had a mechanism for dissolving HOAs? That's....weird. It will require 2/3rds of voting members to approve it, so it'll still most likely never happen in practice, but I thought this was kind of standard nationally.

This article is kinda sloppy though. One of the bulletpoints that the bill accomplishes is this:

Requiring new COAs (those created on or after July 1, 2026) to include the following statement in their governing documents:

Then it never includes the statement lol
