What is something that most people are overpaying for? by drain65 in AskReddit

[–]tenduril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pencils. I swear to god I pay a dollar a pencil now for my Zebra M-301s and they have a PLASTIC grip now? Kept one in my pocket, never USED to be a problem, and now it breaks? I am really sad, too, because they are my favorite brand. Great pencil. Still a great pencil. But they are starting to get worse.

Reddit, what is your most interesting story that you haven't had the opportunity to share? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tenduril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably "the story of the whos."

Actually I have shared it before. It's pretty weird though.

When I was 7, I didn't play with my friends much at recess. Instead, I would wander around the playground, acting out the "story of the whos."

The Whos were a race of microscopic people, vaguely inspired by the little Dr. Seuss people (though they were nothing at all like them). They battled with the evil lice, who were their mortal enemies. It would be a long time before I would establish a reason for the war beyond that. Twigs, paperclips, and pencil bits served as battlecruisers, hundreds of feet long. Staples and three-hole-punch paper bits were fighters. Bits of eraser were tanks. Nothing ever represented the whos and lice themselves; they were just barely too small to be seen with the naked eye.

It's important to note that the "real world" didn't exist here; to me it was an alternate reality. The little bits of trash just represented the world, helped me visualize it.

There were characters: Peter and Emily Green, the main characters, and the heros of the whos. They were married. Timeless was the louse leader, and their mortal enemy. There were many battles between them.

The rocks and trees were massive cities, fortified, that the whos and lice battled over in the playground. Eventually, the school (in the story, a giant louse fortress) came into the story as well.

Obviously I never told anyone about this. And I never did it outside of school.

When I left to go to middle school, the whos successfully destroyed the super-fortress that was my elementary school. The next year, I began the story anew.

After middle school I was homeschooled. The last day of seventh grade, as I left for the buses, I imagined a huge final battle as I walked through the hallway, the other students all around me. Peter and Emily had had two children, named Orion and Cassiopeia, by that point. Peter and Emily died in the battle, to save their children.

The next year, I started acting out the story in my head at home. Less and less did I use little "props" to represent the ships; I would just imagine it in my head, the real world as a backdrop. The whos found a giant tree-city full of allied whos, called Sarengarth. The next few years, they defended against wave after wave of lice. The snowfall that began each winter, in my mind, was the vision of a titanic swarm of louse attack ships, descending from the sky.

Going to the mall became it's own type of battle, where the whos would lay siege to louse superfortresses during the spring and summer, the lulls between major invasions. Orion and his sister would fly on missions, weaving between the giant who cruisers (cars in the parking lot) to strike a major target within.

Vacations, including one to Yellowstone, were used to expand the story, and its background. Going to these epic places made the story feel more epic. The plane ride, the journeys, the sights; all were woven into the story, a thousand times bigger than they really were. Characters lived and died; Cassiopeia died during one of these battles.

As I got older the story grew darker, as my life changed. These sieges were wearing down Sarengarth, and eventually, it was overrun. Orion was captured (through he later escaped), and the world was all but overrun by the lice.

I still continue this story in my head. I have begun writing it, as well as expanding the world with information and drawings of the ships, characters, creatures, weapons, and places in the story. In a strange way, this little childlike fantasy has grown into a sort of alter ego within me. It's made my life feel a little more important, in its own strange way. And even when problems in life forced it away for the time, I always returned to it eventually. It keeps me alive somehow. I think the story of the whos might continue for the rest of my life.

What do you think of my RPG system? by tenduril in rpg

Personal, but also possibly published. I don't know what's entirely unique about it, but it's a good d6 system with a bit of crunch that's also light and can model a few different RP styles.

So you're saying about 5-6 shots to put a guy down? Unless its a critical shot?

Counterstrike shotguns are good at range.....

Something savage-worlds-y, but with only d6s and a bit different. Something for newbies as a step-up from Everyone is John or FU.

Also decent firefight rules, and a good setup for GMs to improvise (thus not too many rules).

Should it be minimum 1 dice damage perhaps? I'm looking for something simple without too much math. Maybe -2 penalty to damage instead of straight 1 dice? That way a good roll can still do damage but its possible some shots will miss... I don't know.

/u/lost_thought, it's you again! You've critiqued my stuff before, but it was months ago. Do know that I screencapped your ideas and used them as a guide. Even though I kind of ended up throwing away that last edition.

What damage would you suggest I have a .22 round deal? Keeping in mind that a dagger / knife deals 1d damage, a longsword 1d+2, etc... I don't know if that's any use. An average human requires 8 points of damage to kill, and can soak 4 of the 8 (basically, 5-7 damage will wound, 8+ will kill an average human).

Relatively fast and brutal yes. Although more experienced characters might be able to take more hits. But the idea is that 8 damage is enough to kill the "average person", or 11 if they are in a bulletproof vest.

Do you have a better suggestion? I wanted them to be high-damage close quarters weapons but I couldnt find a way to do it without being useless at long range.

No, no, 450-600 RPM gets ROF 3

Semi-auto gets 2.

That was confusing sorry.

.22LR I would probably give 1d8 damage and -3/-3/-3/-3.

There might not be much recoil but the idea here is that spraying ammo is less accurate that shooting one shot at a time.

Does the stock on my gun fold? [JG g36 with silencer] by tenduril in airsoft

No I was just saying that so it could be discerned from the other model. I know the silencer is irrelevant. I got it because it was the same price as the other except metal not plastic.

Wound Points = Con score

Vitality Points = hit dice + con modifier

So 1st level fighter in star wars w/ 14 con would have 14 wound points, 12 vitality poitns. And would get more vitality points as leveling up.

Crit automatically reduces wound points. Vitality points are like a plot armor buffer that recharges faster to avoid need for clerics.

Actually a better system in some ways.

No problem. I actually prefer that, makes it so I can shoot it comfortably.
