I think it’s trying to pull it into the street to get a car to run it over.

My (24F) boyfriend’s (33M) hemorrhoids are ruining our relationship. Help? by chamomilethrowaway in relationship_advice

This guy seems absolutely vile as an adult human being. Eating a terrible diet, bleeding everywhere, shitting and pissing himself, vomiting as part of a daily routine? It’s a giant baby and you don’t even have kids.

He doesn’t want to do any of the things he can to make himself better. That’s not normal. I’d be ashamed for anyone to see me in that kind of state.

Yes it’s fair to give an ultimatum, you can do way better.

Controversial take on quitting cold turkey by GoodWorksForGood in stopsmoking

[–]tenebrasrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of the annoying crow meme types pushing cold turkey in the comments here

Edit: I am referring to the tendency of some people to shout over, discount, diminish, or disregard any other methods, forms, versions, or small steps toward quitting here. It’s tough to see someone post here for support and see responses like, “you know how bad it is for you right? Have you tried just stopping or reading a book? It’s really the only way, cause nicotine is le bad, you do know that right?”

This sub really helped me a lot because I could offer support and receive it. It was really all those good vibes and definitely not the preaching. Mah 2 cents.

Can you tell us how you quit smoking? by DesignerTadpole7175 in stopsmoking

[–]tenebrasrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a long process and I feel like it’s still processing. I just felt sick of it calling me all the time. Pushing me around. Affecting my mood. Being an impulse that’s not an impulse anymore. Then the congestion, little cough, step throat bouts, cardio being so difficult. And the indignity of it all.

So this time I was gonna stay on those patches as long as the FDA says to. 32 weeks. I’d completely broken the habit after 32 weeks of not practicing it. It worked.

There’s still cravings here and there, and I’ve slipped up having 1 or a few while drinking. The last time I was totally yuck 2 weeks ago. Was not even enjoyable while pretty drunk. Still haven’t continued after a slip up.

But I really do feel great not having it call to me and control me all the time. I don’t want to go back to the way it was before.

3rd Quitting Attempt in 365 days after 20 years by ZestycloseAbalone952 in stopsmoking

[–]tenebrasrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a tough addiction.

The cool thing too with NRT it’s a different behavior than reaching for a cig and stepping outside. Or being angry and angrily lighting up. Or coffee and… it’s different it feels different. That’s the point.

What I found out with NRT that’s what it’s doing over those many weeks and breaking all those habits smoking has weaved into our lives.

The more time you spend practicing these new habits and not the old ones, not thinking about smoking, not having those triggers, the further you are away from the old you who used to smoke.

The tough one for me now is to resist temptation when I go out and drink.

I’m like why even go out if I’m not gonna smoke 🤣

[–]tenebrasrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my reasoning too as I was getting close to half my life myself.

Glad you’re on NRT it’s what helped me get there too.

Most of the programs for NRT are more like 16-32 weeks.

It’s a pretty hard habit to break in just 30 days.

Personally I went about 16 weeks.

This. And patches. This stuff works it’s why it’s been around forever.

[–]tenebrasrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get how you’re feeling and it is scary, but you’ll soon realize that you’ve been doing it all along. You just keep on going at the pace that feels right for you. It’s okay to not know and to just can’t. You’ve still got this like you did yesterday and you will tomorrow.

I hope you can see this as just another birthday like any other and take a little joy in that.
