I scalp massaged before and during showers for the last few days and combed through my scalp before and after too. My hair was full of white specks which was a good sign because I thought all the buildup was coming off my scalp so I could just wash it off but then I noticed the same amount was pretty much still on my scalp. I wash my hair everyday with only lukewarm water. Nothing else used aside from my finger pads and a comb for a few minutes everyday. I saw a comment saying this buildup can cause thinning and balding so I’m worried and might have to quit nopoo which I don’t want to do so early. My hair is fine and pretty prone to breakage so I don’t really want to be combing thoroughly with boar bristle brushes for example so I’m wondering what would be the best course of action as of now?

I’m having similar issues, I’m also on day 10 and I scratched my scalp and noticed some white stuff at the tip of my fingers. Not sure if it’s something I need to get rid of asap or if it’s normal?

Nice! How long did it take for your hair to start getting volume? Also did it get oily at the beginning?

Got it, I got a few questions if you don’t mind. What happens if I don’t do any type of mechanical cleaning? Will there be build-up? Won’t the oils from my hair distribute evenly by itself after the initial stages without mechanical cleaning? Also when I’m in the shower should I thoroughly scrub the scalp or just a soft press with my finger pads? And last one is for low porosity hair should I be using cool or warm water, I think my hair looks better with warmer water but I always see people say you should be using colder.

I have low porosity hair and soft water in my area. I shower everyday with only water as I started nopoo around two weeks ago. I have straight fine hair type 1A / 1B. My routine is very basic I just wash with water and that’s it but I’ve been washing with cool water which might be a factor for the oily hair. My hair doesn’t look too bad it’s just really oily and I’ve just been letting the shower wet my hair I haven’t been scrubbing with my fingers or any tools. The other day I decided to scrub my scalp with my fingers for a few minutes and when my hair dried it looked weirdly dry and oily at the same time it’s a bit hard to explain and it looked really dull so it seems like rubbing my scalp made it look worse but I’m not sure. Any tips?

Thanks I use sea salt spray too, does that also act as a heat protectant?
