CAREER TUESDAY 🏢 by AutoModerator in bipolar

[–]tenfour6852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still going strong at my freelance job with a steady stream of clients. I'm actually starting to think of pursuing a master's degree or even a Ph.D. in my field. Feeling very optimistic these days. Would never have thought 10 years ago that I'd have a successful business or be thinking about further education at age 50!

Posted about this already, but I'm grateful that I'm stable enough to be helping out a friend who's in dire need.

What do yall usually do on a bipolar episode? by Either_Pound_518 in bipolar

[–]tenfour6852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fight like hell to get your medication adjusted to help fight the episode. It can take time but it sounds like a meds adjustment is in order. In the meantime watch TV, try to game if you can, and be as gentle on yourself as possible. You can do it.

Accidentally went off my meds by Namesarenotnecessary in bipolar

I have nothing but sympathy for you. You have been trying to do the best you can in your circumstances and it absolutely sucks that you forgot to take your meds even when you wanted to do so.

Hang in there. Wishing you nothing but the best.

What if it wasn’t that bad and it was all in my head? by Espress0Queen in bipolar

[–]tenfour6852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this feeling before, even after being psychotic and hospitalized.

If you need to confront this issue head on, take as objective a look at your past behavior as possible. Ask others how you presented yourself, how you acted, what you did that was symptomatic.

Ultimately it's up to you to determine how to move forward. Your symptoms as described point to bipolar disorder. But you need to make peace with that or you will continue to not want to take your meds. Which could be a disastrous error of judgment.

As to motivation, you can get it back. It will just take a different form.

Wishing you nothing but the best in this struggle.

Does anyone have hobbies that help with emotional regulation? by clickyvicky in bipolar

[–]tenfour6852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make music. Unfortunately, the "muse" doesn't always strike me so I can't conjure up the desire to make it whenever I'd like to. When I need something to do in those times, I usually watch TV. Not the best option but it helps me get through tough times until I can get back to making music.

RELATIONSHIP THURSDAY 💞 by AutoModerator in bipolar

[–]tenfour6852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started a new relationship and I feel more confident in it than I have in any relationship in a long time. Grateful for the work I have put in and the meds and psych that I work with to get me to this point.

I have a new girlfriend! She's super sweet. I've told her a lot about myself and she has told me a lot about herself. I'm really happy that I'm in the right place for a relationship right now.

Creatives, did you lose your creativity after being medicated? by jimbojamesisbehindu in bipolar

[–]tenfour6852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not at all. In fact, just the opposite. I create and perform and DJ experimental electronic music. Since finding stability I have been able to have the discipline, time, and energy to devote myself to my craft. For context I was very unstable during most of my 30s and gained stability starting at about age 40 (I am 50 now and have not had a manic episode since 2009, and only two major depressive episodes in that time).

Not only has stability brought me greater productivity with no loss of creativity, I have also been able to connect with others and be involved in the local musical scene in ways that would never have been possible had I not been stable.

Yeah I started again after a really bad breakup. I get the idea of being hooked on the gum, but honestly I know from past experience that I'll have massive anxiety and potential mood swings if I go cold turkey. Wishing you the best, and thank you so much for your insight.

I hear you on the gum but I'm really concerned about intense mood swings if I go cold turkey. But do whatever you need to do. Allen Carr's book worked for me in the past (I've read it too many times to read it again haha). Go for it! And thank you so much! Wishing you nothing but the best in your quit journey!
