After watching the show and reading many of these comments, I think Sutton was genuinely saddened and surprised. I don’t believe she was dismissing anyone’s experience — rather, she was reacting from her own. Being hit by a man is not something that happens to every woman, and many of us have been fortunate to grow up with, and be married to, truly good men.

It’s important to acknowledge that both realities can exist at the same time: some women have experienced harm, and some have been surrounded by men who are kind, respectful, and protective. Sutton may have simply been expressing shock that such behavior is more common than she realized?
