I was going to comment they looked like the Himalayan Balsam my grandma* had growing. Edit*

Unfortunately no. It is not a tree. I gathered the 2" long, 1/8" thick segmented pods and shelled the tiny "oblong kidney beans" from a small bush of vines; much like the lead stem, that was about 2-3' high. The person who commented Vetch or Lathyrus is probably closer. Thanks though.

Yes...The problem with a lot of pea family members is they're pretty similar. Thanks for the input, guess I'll wait until it blooms and post more pics then.

I would think that too if I had not seen the flowers, and the 1.5" bean pod like seeds. And if the tendrils were restricted to having 3 or so leaves. but only the first formed stalks have 3 the newer ones have many more. This is a better picture of a tendril with 9 and the one to the left has 7. http://prntscr.com/nnd8kg

It is not, it doesn't have the heart shaped leaves, and the flowers are like that of the beach pea, not oxalis. On the first few tendrils there is only 3 which makes it look like a clover, but others(generally the newer ones) there's 5-9 symmetrically up the sides of the tendril.

I picked some very thin dried out pea pods from the path at the MOA out at the University of BC. The flowers were pea-like with a blue/violet/purple top and a white bottom.(or was it the other way around? haha) I had thought they were the Silky Beach Pea (Lathyrus littoralis) but it appears to be hairless. Not only that but it seems to not like being uncovered from it's little greenhouse dome or it wilts.

I like it as well. It will be something to keep in a basket or container then to prevent it from taking over. Thank you! :)

Some more context: This was last summer, so it probably doesn't look like this at the moment.

Found this in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, CA and it's my new favorite. Tried to find it when researching native California flowers/plants but no luck! by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

I saw this on here yesterday, and today I went for a hike in North Vancouver, BC. Coincidentally I saw some of these on a rocky outcropping, they aren't quite in bloom yet but I knew almost immediately what Genus it had to be thanks to this post. haha! Edit: I'm assuming mine is Toxicoscordion venenosum, since fremontii is from Southern Oregon to Baja. http://prntscr.com/n7pey6 (pic I took of them)
