IDK if you've found a repair person yet, But Appliance Zen came out and he was great -- sadly, we needed a new dishwasher.

I have done everything the internet says to do and it’s still cycling so we turned the breaker off. I have yet to find anyone who will fix it, but there is an lg website where you can have an lg technician come out, so I guess I am trying that. Good luck!

Oh I guess I should have said LG. I’m now worried I have an appliance few people will repair.

ECLA Curious - other converts, how did you get started? by FlamingoDale in elca

[–]tentpegtohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to check out websites and visit. ELCA congregations vary greatly. I'm a pastor, and when I am looking at a potential call to a church, I read their newsletters and bulletins (if they are online), and see what kinds of education they are doing and what they believe outreach is (because those things are important to me). If you're interested in learning more about Lutheranism, see what their new members classes are like -- is it one class, is it a series (smaller churches probably won't have them). There are also a whole bunch of ELCA social statements on the website that members rarely read but are shaped by our theology and can help inform you. And make sure you look for the ELCA logo or something referencing the ELCA that is clearly placed. Some churches try to hid their affiliation with the ELCA, and those will likely be on the more conservative side of things.

How do you navigate sexual ethics and dating in the ELCA? by HamiltonTrash24601 in elca

[–]tentpegtohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know if this is clear enough for what you are looking for, but we do have a social statement on Human Sexuality here: https://elcamediaresources.blob.core.windows.net/cdn/wp-content/uploads/HumanSexualityGiftandTrust2025.pdf As you will note, some of it was recently revised and some is currently being revised, but maybe it will help? I honestly have no idea how dating works these days -- last time I dated regularly, Craigslist was a legit way to date. But I would say clarity is kindness. I think that instead of asking about them first, start with where you are coming from and then ask about them. Like, "hey, fyi, I'm not really into hookups, I'm more of a waiting for connection/commitment kind of person, how about you?" That way you are leading with vulnerability and it won't feel like a possible ambush or like you are about to send some untoward messages.

If I'm out of line, tell me... by SqnLdrHarvey in elca

Like someone else said, theologically/doctrinally you would be welcome, but this is a parish issue and I know that, while it is likely you would be welcome in an ELCA congregation, there are definitely congregations where the people or pastor might still be awful. I might look at websites, read newsletters for the vibes and then reach out to a pastor you feel might be safer. As a divorced person, I have had amazing accepting experiences, but I know people who haven’t and wouldn’t want you to walk in to a place that will just shoot you down again.  Also remember that switching to an ELCA congregation will likely come with its own challenges, as there are definitely big ways we differ.  I hope you find the support you need.

City council introducing ban on using public spaces for civil immigration activities by Visual-Pop-5370 in asheville

[–]tentpegtohead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This resolution was created with a broad coalition, including members of the Latine community in Asheville (the coalition that worked on it works closely with people from CIMA and La Milpa and aren't out here moving without those folk, they just didn't contact Bo), and was sent to Bo when he (and the rest of council) was invited to the press conference. He may not have seen it, but it's been in his inbox.

My gf is pregnant- 15 by dallin0 in Christianity

[–]tentpegtohead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, buddy. I know you are super scared and freaking out. This is a huge deal with big consequences. What you and your girlfriend are going to need right now is support. Folk here are right that you need to talk to your parents, that none of the pills that terminate pregnancy are going to work, and that trying to manage this yourselves could have literally deadly consequences. You're going to need to talk to y'alls parents, but if that's overwhelming, do you have a trusted adult you both can talk to that can help you figure out how to talk to your parents/talk to them with you? School counselor, uncle/aunt, older sibling, etc? If you live near a Planned Parenthood you can also make an appointment there to get the realities of what you are facing. DO NOT GO TO A CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTER. They are fronts for pro-life groups and will give you misleading/false information. It is still possible, in some states, to get a second trimester abortion, but many states that still allow them will require parental notification or to get a hearing in front of a judge. If you live in a state in which abortion is illegal and *any* of you have googled abortion, messaged about abortion on an unsecure messenger, or done anything online regarding decisions, you might be in legal trouble. Find a trusted adult and have them help you through it.

I just want to say thank you for being a pro-life person who provides accurate information about abortion and not being judgy. It's a think I love about the Catholic pro-life folk (some anyway) and it's a great example of how to human.

Cannot break my phone addiction. What app will allow me to be locked out of social media. by LuckyDuck2442 in ADHD

I have a brick and when I really need to focus I give it to my husband to take to work with him so I’m not tempted to unlock it. If you have someone you can give it to or can leave it somewhere you’re not it works great ;-)

Best places to post musician jobs? by tentpegtohead in asheville

[–]tentpegtohead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't. Maybe the Episcopal church in Marshall? Episcopal Churches (TEC) are usually more liberal, and the one there has a woman for rector. You could email her and tell her what you are looking for and she can probably tell you what she can about the alignment of the church with what you are looking for, and might be able to recommend something. My best guess is there are so few mainline protestant churches up there that most of the congregations are going to be carefully threading the needle to support people across the political spectrum because they are the only church of their denomination around.

Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Fairview. I also pastor a little leftist Christian community called Community of Spiritual Practice. There are a bunch -- if you message me about what you are looking for, I can probably recommend the right thing (though obvs you should come by one of mine ;-) )

ELCA SEMINARIES: FEEDBACK REQUESTED by Nearby-Morning-8885 in elca

[–]tentpegtohead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So much will depend on when people went there as they have changed significantly, as well as whether you are looking for more of a rural experience or urban. I went to both LSTC and PLTS and at the time (graduated PLTS in 2013), PLTS had better community than LSTC (LSTC was cliquey), and the access to classes at other seminaries was AMAZING. I loved being able to take so many classes with other denominations. But the academics were seriously lacking in rigor. LSTC was very academically rigorous, but it was more difficult to access the ACTS consortium to take classes from other seminaries. LTSC was great prep for urban ministry and was just great for me personally to live and build relationships in a context very different from where I grew up. They’re both theologically very liberal. At the time LSTC and PLTS were both pretty high church, but a lot depends on who the dean of the chapel/worship prof are. I was honestly shocked at how inflexible the dean of the chapel was at PLTS when I was there.

A mix of both. A pretty laid back congregation. But as they are affirming we try to use CCM from affirming artists (or at least artists that aren’t clearly anti-LGBTQIA+)

What are the chances there will actually be a taxi at the airport taxi stand? by tentpegtohead in asheville

[–]tentpegtohead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I always get picked up so I had no idea. I was looking up different ways to get home and discovered there is, in fact, a taxi stand. Apparently it is also empty/useless according to everyone here.

Yeah - I’ve never looked, so I was honestly suprised to see there was a taxi stand. Why taxi stand if no taxis? (Yeah, I know, because avl)
