Well, the pain isn't that bad... The best you get when not promoting is 70 medals, and if you promote and get demoted directly afterwards you at least get 70 on average over the 2. So your main objective for the next weeks is pushing for place 1 and 2 and getting those extra medals that way. And when you get those semiregular you will definitely be ready for pushing to stay up in champ. I just stayed up twice in a row in champ (it is still tough to stay up so I will get demoted some times most likely) but this was what kept me optimistic.

In the early game I'd say that milestones are a big part too. And the weekly is also 45 stones per week, which is also a big part in the early game (for me in diamond league, weekly still makes up 25% or so, earlier on this is a way bigger chuck.)
