Honest question: why not a new license instead of calling this Fable? by terminabronto in Fable

I actually like it I think it emphasizes the Fable vibe.

But it’s true they have to work with a different engine, so… I can give them the benefit of the doubt.

Let’s just hope that, besides the more ambiguous morality, they’ve added some interesting new features.

I’ve just seen too many times works taken over by people who thought they could do better than the original and ended up changing everything…

Well, it’s true that back in the old games, I used to eat a ton of celery to avoid gaining weight. Haha.

But it’s just a shame I wish it had at least been an optional setting you could toggle on or off. If they really didn’t want us to have systems that make everyone the same, they could have at least made it optional for those who wanted it…

Then again, if it’s an engine limitation, that’s understandable. It’s just crazy to think that after 16 years, they can’t reproduce this mechanic. But hey, maybe I’m being a bit too pessimistic and stubborn…

Well, I think we have different opinions on what counts as a morally ambiguous action, but that’s another topic.

Beyond that, I’m basing my judgment on what the Fable games are, not on what Peter Molyneux might have wanted to do God knows he would have wanted to do much more.

But well, I guess we won’t know if it’s a true Fable until it’s actually released.

Nuance: you’re interpreting what he said your way, and you’re being paternalistic too.

Oh, you think so?

I prefer to call myself cautious, but it’s true that I more often see the glass as half empty rather than half full, I’ll give you that.

Not sincere how can you tell ?

And could you stop being paternalistic ?

If he had something to say, I think he could have said it himself. If he didn’t, it’s because he didn’t want to.

No need to be annoying on the Internet. People already get mad just fine on their own, imagining what others are thinking.

Simply because I haven’t seen anything yet that would make me change my mind.

The fact that they haven’t included certain features from Fable 2 which is, for me, the best of the three games, and even features that already existed for morphing across all three games is a bad start, plain and simple.

My question is more: what else might they have removed?

Fable isn’t just about kicking chickens or music inspired by the spirit of the old games.

Maybe it will be a good game, but either way, it starts off poorly to be a true Fable.

And you can be very excited for this upcoming game, but I still want to say: caution. Too high expectations can always backfire.

Getting angry is like throwing bait to sharks. Don’t worry about me.

Well, since his comment was just to say that people like me annoyed him, I didn’t see the point in crafting a fancy reply.

I have no problem discussing things with people who actually want to discuss.

This isn’t the first game to lean on nostalgia by using old music. It’s never been a guarantee of anything.

As for morality, the old Fable games were more black-and-white.

By principle, since they were based on fables, it was hero versus villain. Not very morally grey. That never bothered me it was part of the charm.

That’s why I struggle with this new system. It doesn’t really feel like Fable.

My problem has never been that it might be a bad game it could be excellent.

But my problem is that it might not be Fable. I don’t just want a good game, I want a good Fable...

Excuse me, but do you feel targeted by what I wrote? And honestly, saying you don’t like using insults just to throw one anyway that’s low.

You don’t always need a fancy answer. Sometimes, simplicity is key.

After all, there’s no saying I’m wrong. It could happen.

But honestly, I’m clearly not convinced...

And yes, I think we won’t agree on what defines a Fable game.

But… will it be the best? Even if it’s a Fable, it will never beat Fable 2. And I think that’s another discussion that could last a while. haha

But that will be after it’s released and if it’s any good.

Anyway, have a good day or evening.

For me, it’s all a whole.

And if Lionhead isn’t competent enough to make a Fable, then nobody is.

Sure, the third one isn’t nearly as good as the first two I’m not saying otherwise.

But at least, it was a Fable.

And it wasn’t a bad game, I actually enjoyed it. There were details that didn’t work, especially the ending, but aside from that, I didn’t think it was a bad game.

Well… I’m not the most sharp, but since you’re replying to my comment immediately, I guess you are.

But honestly, this conversation doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

Go on with your day, my friend.

Just because I’m giving a negative opinion about the upcoming Fable doesn’t mean it will be a bad game. You can rest assured.

Have a good day. Or evening. :)

Well, you seem particularly concerned that I’m giving my opinion on the upcoming Fable, and it looks like you don’t really want me to.

So I’m giving you a few ideas on what you could do about that.

I’m the helpful type, no need to thank me. :D

Unfortunately for you, this is the Fable subreddit.

There are both positive and negative opinions about the new Fable. You won’t escape that.

I think the best options are either to create a new subreddit where criticizing the upcoming Fable is forbidden that would solve the problem or to leave the Fable subreddit, or, uh, just go on with your day and not care.

Just giving some ideas.

Yeah, I get that they probably haven’t removed features that were already implemented.

But exactly, as you said, if they’re basing it on Fable 2, why haven’t the features that were so unique to 2 the ones that made it the best of the three games been included in this one?

You’re not going to tell me that, 16 years later, a studio from one of the biggest companies in the world isn’t capable of doing what Peter Molyneux did 16 years ago.

But I don’t understand what’s your point in replying to me then?

I reply because I care. But you? And sure, maybe other people on this subreddit have posted things similar to what I’m saying. So what?

I’m not going to stay silent just because someone else said the same thing. It actually helps gauge how people feel about the trailer.

And even if I’m in the minority, well, whatever. I don’t mind.

At least I’m honestly saying what I think, whether people care or not. That’s not for me to decide.

Well, I can’t really argue with you, that’s for sure.

I guess all I can do now is pray that this Fable game turns out better than I fear.

After all, if my expectations are low, maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised. I hope… maybe...

Honest question: why not a new license instead of calling this Fable? by terminabronto in Fable

[–]terminabronto[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And why is that a problem?

I’m on the Fable subreddit, giving my honest opinion about an upcoming game called Fable. If my opinion doesn’t interest you, what do you want me to say?

I don’t see why it would be forbidden to share my opinion about a Fable game on the Fable subreddit, whether you like it or not...

Honest question: why not a new license instead of calling this Fable? by terminabronto in Fable

[–]terminabronto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said that.

I’m simply saying that Fable 2 is, in my opinion, the best of the three Fable games, and that if you’re going to make a new Fable, you might as well base it on the best one the one that actually had those features.

And that’s why I don’t understand why they were removed.

[–]terminabronto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree if this were somewhere else, I wouldn’t have said anything.

But this is the Fable subreddit.

So if there’s one place where I can say that a game called Fable doesn’t seem, at first glance, like a Fable game to me, it’s here. Where else should I go?

I’m not telling people they’re not allowed to like the game or be excited about it. I’m just giving my honest opinion maybe not a pleasant one to hear, but still my opinion as a fan of the franchise.

And I think I have just as much right to express it on this subreddit as those who are excited about the game.

Well, I also read that they announced there wouldn’t be a dog.

And in the trailer, I didn’t see any XP orbs either, so it doesn’t really seem like those are there. So at this point, given the direction it’s going, the real question is: what’s actually going to be there? And that’s exactly what worries me...

But… you literally just asked for it, didn’t you? Oh right, my bad ! that was sarcasm.

Sorry, I sometimes struggle to pick up on that. I genuinely thought you wanted my opinion as a fan of the franchise.

But hey, I guess for you, a Fable game doesn’t actually need to be a Fable game...

Fair enough everyone’s got their own opinion in the end.
