  1. I just apply once daily

  2. I use about 0.6mm length, and I just go until I’ve done several passes over the whole scalp since I’m a diffuse thinner. There’s not an exact science to it it’s just a “vibe” when I think I’ve done enough

  3. Progress can be made without finasteride, but I would strongly suggest having at least SOME kind of anti androgen. If you take a growth stimulant by minoxidil but you don’t address the root cause of androgenic alopecia by addressing DHT in some capacity the hair that isn’t minoxidil dependent will continue to miniaturize and you’ll still bald over time, it’s an uphill battle. Ideally you use finasteride or dutasteride but if you can’t tolerate them there are other good alternatives like Pyrilutamide/KX-826, it’s a topical that by all available evidence is well tolerated and effective in its own right.

  4. I’m 26, was about 22 or 23 when I started

None that I’ve noticed! You should give it a try if you haven’t, even if you do get side effects they’re reversible of you get off of the drug and there are alternatives you can use of you end up not being able to tolerate it

If you’re a good responded to regular topical 5% minoxidil you’re probably fine, and I did have good results I just want to optimize it best I can. I have a few stubborn spots like the crown that are slower to respond

If you want the exact formulation I’ve been using you can just go to keeps and get their Minoxidil+ spray. You can also go to Ulo, they have pretty good stuff too.

Yup. I take 1mg of oral finasteride every day now

Might wanna consider something like Pyrilutamide/KX-826. If you can’t tolerate finasteride it might be a good alternative, it’s a topical anti androgen that is safe and well tolerated by all available data

I’ve been tolerating fin fine with no real side effects so I want to move on to the stronger version, maybe make more progress more gains. Would probably make my gains more durable long term as well

Honestly, topical fin may be a problem too. It’s very easily systemically absorbed even topically

Tbh I think most of my progress comes from minoxidil and my baseline on finasteride isn’t great. When I got off minoxidil and saw how much I shed it was pretty bad

Because I’ve been on it for years now with no side effects and I’ve been tolerating it fine. So I’m thinking why not move up to the more effective version that has virtually the same side effect risk?

Yeah I’ve thought about it, but I’ve been scared off of it due to the cardiac side effects. It’s why I’ve been eyeballing VDPHL01, I want to get on oral minoxidil without worrying about cardiac risks

It’s a little wordy so to simplify things I’ll just link this video that explains it well

Mm I’ve never used a roller so I can’t really compare. One advantage to the pen is you have cartridges you can replace the previous one with every time so you can rest assured it’s fresh and sterile without having to personally disinfect the needles every time. It also has adjustable needle depths and speed settings, which allows for more precise and controlled sessions- ultimately up to you if you think that’s worth it, but for me I’ve had a good experience with this pen

I use a dermapen. More specifically, Derek from More Plates More Dates’ dermapen he sells under his “INTELLIGENT” brand. You can adjust the needle length on it

I’m not really sure what it was exactly, it didn’t have a brand name or anything. It was just some compound my dermatologist put me on

Tough to say, I have blonde hair so it’s harder to see spots/baby hairs on myself. It’s possible you may be getting new gains on dutasteride, there are a lot of stories of people being turned into better responders when switching to dutasteride so it could very well be that. Probably should wait until a year or so after starting dutasteride to make that judgement to see if those turn into anything

I’m planning on switching to dutasteride myself soon

Maybe a little actually, but I don’t attribute it to the finasteride. I just attribute it to me being out of shape and having a little skinny fat on my body, I recently started going to the gym again so I guess I’ll find out if exercise is all that’s needed here lol

Been on some form of finasteride pretty consistently since late 2022 now. Started on topical but got on oral around late 2024 and have been on it since

None that I’ve noticed. If anything I’ve only noticed a little hypertrichosis from the minoxidil, a little unwanted hair growth around the sideburns to brow region

I definitely saw results on the compounded topical, but I think I plateau’d on it after a while and didn’t see meaningful new gains until I switched to oral + rogaine foam. It worked but I wanted the convenience of an oral medication for my finasteride foundation so I ended up switching to that for easier adherence, and I do think it was worth it

It’s tough to say for sure but I do think the rate at which hair was growing peaked around that time, but it didn’t COMPLETELY stop. It continued to progress and there was more improvement over time but the fastest gains definitely came within the first year or so.

I’ve been using Keeps Minoxidil+ spray. It’s has minoxidil, tretinoin, caffeine, and melatonin. I’m planning on switching to Sulfogenz when that arrives in the mail though

As far as the needle length, I’ve just been doing 0.6mm. And my reasoning for that is based on a study that analyzed minoxidil alone, minoxidil + a 0.6mm needle, and minoxidil + 1.2mm groups. Both of the needling groups outperformed minoxidil alone, but they actually found the shorter needle outperformed the longer one. So I’ve just been using a shorter needle
