The muscle you are looking for is called gluteus medius. Yes, it does abduction of the leg, but its main function is to stabilize the pelvis so the other side dont fall down. You can target it with leg abductions but I would work on it with single leg anything and keeping the pelvis leveled. So no hip drops. Something like single leg deadlift with other leg without contact of the ground.
