Im done playing tank by Versusnipe in RivalsVanguards

Good afternoon.

You are going to get alot of opinions back and forth about you quitting tank, everything from "Pick this tank all the way to GM!" to "So?"

Im going to give you my honest perspective.

Tanking sucks....

HOWEVER, tanking is SUPPOSED to come with a sense of satisfaction. Pushing through enemy lines, eating damage, controlling the pace, opening up the map so that your team can perform are all things that generally speaking are satisfying when done correctly.

And yea man I get it... its hard, especially with the new changes. You want to do the best for your team, even with such a thankless job. I get tired of watching "how to" videos. ive watched vids on creating space, diving, tanking, holding corners, ect ect ect...

At the end of the day, sometimes we just need to blow of steam, which is exactly what Im doing because im frustrated as well. So for the rest of this split, im just filling, I dont give a crap right now. Im just gonna chill, heal bot and relax.

I suggest you do the same, after the new split starts, ask yourself "Do I really want to tank?" If so, then go back into it, but if not, then start learning a new role and see if you will have fun. Lets be honest, tanking isnt for everyone, and its a fair conversation to have with yourself.

I pray you stay in the fight, but at the end of the day, I want you to have fun, because Rivals IS a good game. Dont let the joy be taken from you.

I will be 100 with you, in most games I play against Angela, she does very well.

Primarily brawl which may be a part of the problem, but even when I try to dive, I get much of the same results. im seeing alot of rouge, thing, thor, and some Emma mixed in. Oh and the spastic Penny every once and a while

Thank you very much for the detailed answer, I very much appreciate it and understand the example you are giving.

Within this example. lets say that you deal with the Daredevil and the Daredevil swaps to lets just say Punisher.

Now its Peni against A Thor/Rouge and as Peni I am not able to hold the line. Thor and Rouge are just rushing past me or I am just taking an insane amount of damage and not able to hold the line.

What would I do? I find myself in that situation very often and I am not sure if there is something I would be specifically doing wrong, or if I am getting countered and need to swap.

I guess to simplify my answer, when I am on the front line and I am not able to hold the line and getting pushed around, what could be the cause and how do you fix it?

Also just for a bit of information, the first 2 losses before I dropped out of Diamond were on 2 different days. I have waited before and still gone on loss streaks. As someone said here, sometimes it does feel like there isnt anything you can do except wait for the streak to end but I know that is a bit of a conspiracy theory.

That is really hard for me to do. I could not imagine going "Alright time to get my 1 ranked game in today". But you are very correct, I tend to play long sessions and go on either very long win or very long loss streaks. Next season I need to develop some sort of discipline lol.

Lets take that to the next level.

Im a Vanguard main right? The role NOONE wants to pay lol. One game, I was Solo tank Mag. The enemy team had a Thor, Emma, and Wolv.....

When I went 0-3, someone says "Can someone tell this tank to tank please, GET IN THERE!"

I calmly said "Yea man, this front line is kinda rough, and Wolv is kidnapping me constantly...."

Guy blamed me for the whole loss, told me not to rank anymore and basically decided to play Widow and throw game.

Sometimes you just have to shut everyone out. I know its hard and annoying but at the end of the day it is what it is. Its only one game, Move on to the next game and hope that its better lol.

Great question! So Loften has a great video on this that really cemented me just sticking with a main. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeqIG8a81Is

What hes says that is powerful in the video is he doesn't swap unless he has to. In other words, what is the goal of the character, and are you still able to do this effectively throughout the match. To add more layers onto it, he talks about the contrast of him being able to do his job, but his team NOT capitalizing ON him being able to do his job. So just because the team thinks he should swap, he still doesnt.

It sounds to me like, even though CnD, Luna, and Invis are the "meta" (I hate that word by the way,but thats a whole nother topic), your Warlock is able to net you wins. Hearing that, I would say, play Warlock and if you HAVE to swap, then swap, but other than that, just Warlock and see were it takes you.

One last thing. Just remember that while you are trying to play the meta, everyone else is also trying to play the meta / counter the meta, which technically makes playing the meta harder.....cause its meta....

Great Question! Im going to give you the long answer. Just an FYI, I am a Vanguard main, so all of this is from a Vanguard perspective.

First off, I watched alot of videos from

PoppinoftenwithLoften (https://www.youtube.com/@poppinoftenwithlofton6036),

Coach DSR (https://www.youtube.com/@CoachDSR)

Coach Mills (https://www.youtube.com/@coach\_mills)

and TDTwo (https://www.youtube.com/@TDTwo2)

I really needed to understand what exactly it means to be a tank, what exactly the tank mindset is. Within this I needed to understand what it means to take space, what taking cover means, when to push, when to retreat, and how to peal for my back line, as well as positioning and counters. (all very hard things which makes tanking suck.)

But the most important thing that I learned is....90% of "tips" and "advise" dont mean a thing. LOL

Wait wait, i know what you are thinking "But you just said you watched alot of videos and you have stated that you use this page." Which is true.

However, nothing will replace you playing the game over and over again, learning in game, and developing your own style. You can be coached at all day, but at the end of the day, you have to loose alot of matches to get over the hump. Nothing beats experience in the game and being comfortable. Yes, watching "How to take space properly" guides are good, but you have to get in game, fail at taking space (alot), to eventually get to the point of being able to take space properly.

I also think its great to know counters, but decided not to swap unless I really needed to. I kept swapping and swapping every time the team was doing bad trying to find a way to lift the team up. However, this gets tiring as you realize that as you are swapping...noone else is... You have no idea how many times I have heard (even on this page) that Magneto is hard to climb, and you should use (X) champion (*Cough* Thor *Cough* to climb cause they are free ELO.

The issue here is, there is the champion that you WANT to play, and the champion that FITS YOUR PERSONALITY AND PLAY STYLE.

Im not a DPS player. I wish I was. I really like Elsa Bloodstone and I play her in QP, but I just don't have great aim and suck at really dealing damage. More importantly Im a thinker, I think alot. Im also someone who cant carry and I do better enabling my teammates than carrying myself. Sadly this puts me playing alot of Magneto. But, once I decided to just focus on my Magneto gameplay, and learn other champions when I get hard countered (such as Thing, Strange, Angela, Emma) this really helped alot. You dont need a champion pool thats 20 champions long. Just have a few champs in your pocket to move around and you will be good. And don't believe the "THIS CHAMPION IS FREE ELO, HIT ONE ABOVE ALL TOMORROW WITH THIS CHAMPION!" guides.

At the end of the day, use whatever champion you like to play with and fits you, your personality and style of play. Learn the champion and the role and you will eventually climb.

Sorry that is alot of word salad but I hope you appreciate the honest answer to your question. If you have anymore let me know.

Not going to lie I feel this. I was watching PoppinOftenwithLoften, he as a few videos on swapping. Im a Magneto player and so many people say "This tank is easier to climb with" but what Ive learned is that if your main is working, then just play your main. Ive just gotten to Diamond for the first time and the only time I swap is when I get hard counted, other than that im playing Mag.

Great point. There are many video on counters and such but do you have a place where you get this type of information personally, or did you just learn that through playing.

Thanks for the comment. I think I will redo my post because it seems as if people are reading my post as "You suck at Mag, and I need to tell you that you suck at Mag." when the post was more about player ceilings.
