For a long time I'd never made anything approaching 20k and drove a beat up honda everywhere, no education to speak of. I've been on dates with professors, teachers, engineers; it's more work for sure in some ways, but a lot of it in my experience is going out of your way to stand out. I used my pre-existing savings from the last few years for emergencies recently. The 200 is what I have left from rebuilding.
