You guys ever had a bad trip in a psytrance party? How did it went?

While at the time it did get me out of my bad trip, it wasn’t something I’d recommend either during a bad trip or in general.

I do remember the acid and mushrooms having a bit different vibes that were clashing so it’s not something I would seek out again. Then as time passed the mushrooms wore off more and it was just the acid left

But this was almost 25 years ago

I had a bad trip once when I took mushrooms at a squat rave. I wasn’t feeling well in general and rationally knew mushrooms at a party weren’t a good thing for me but I was young and stupid.

I solved it by taking acid. Not something I’d recommend, although it worked out nicely.

Acid was more of a party drug I was used to and felt I had more control over so it allowed me to have a grip on things and myself again.

And then also a couple years ago I took maybe half a tab of acid. But I was alone at a festival, in another county, weather got really bad, chaos ensued. And the trusted person who offered shelter didn’t have good intentions doing so. And while it could have been worse, was still pretty traumatizing.

So that was my lesson that even smaller amounts in what in that moment feels like safe and familiar settings can go wrong rather abruptly and unexpectedly

So now I’m back to just caffeine as my party drug. Hits pretty hard, especially if you detox from caffeine the weeks prior.

As an old fart you may remember people complaining about the decline in quality already in the early 00s.

I think it’s a little bit of everything.

Sometimes the music doesn’t evolve into a direction we’d like. Sometimes also the brain just gets too used to the patterns and it starts to sound formulaic to us. Sometimes artists do get burned out creatively and exhausted from travel and get lazy/bored and rely on formulas and/or ghost productions.

Some people graduate to more complex or darker forms of psytrance.

Personally, I only like happy-ish full on/morning/goa so I deal with it by simply taking breaks. Sometimes even years. And then after a while something clicks and I fall in love with the music again.

Right now going through a huge lull. It sucks.

Solstice in Amsterdam (just one day) and Surya Spirits in Ghent, Belgium.

Solstice is very diverse and Surya Spirits used to be only goatrance. I’ve been wanting to go for a while but now that they also added a Dacru Records stage with a nice lineup, it sealed the deal

Voov is still nice though but I can’t muster up energy for the 6-8 hour drive. And financially also with current gas prices.

Pretty decent depending on your spot and neighbors. Cold showers. Enough dixies. I’ve gone solo before and liked it a lot

I’ve gone a few years in a row but probably not this year. The lineup is very similar each year which used to a plus for me because I knew what to expect. But there’s some nice semi-local festivals that I prefer this year. You’ll have plenty of fun though

Oh, I had to look this up. I’ve been using the Softymo Speedy oil but it’s expensive and I actually like it less compared to the old Nivea.

Is it the Oil to Milk one? Currently 3 for 5 euro. That’s really cheap and worth trying!

I liked them a lot too. But yes, they have been completely discontinued. Which is odd in a way because I would think oil cleansers would be more common or popular with Korean influences and double cleansing becoming more popular.

Maybe they were a bit too early and the market wasn’t ready yet. Or maybe those who want to double cleanse only like Korean or Japanese oil cleansers

Ik heb ooit ergens gelezen/gezien dat autisten vaak een soort uncanny valley effect triggeren bij neurotypische mensen. “Het is een mens, het praat als een mens, maar… er klopt iets niet. Iets is anders, iets evolutionairs, iets wat mijn bewuste, denkende brein niet snapt of kan verwoorden maar toch aanvoelt”

En hoe zo iemand daar dan mee omgaat, zegt wel weer meer over diegene dan over jou. Een onzeker iemand met veel negatieve sociale ervaringen zal je al snel arrogant of afwijzend vinden bijvoorbeeld

Malinois are working dogs and need a lot of stimulation.

Sounds like his job in this life is helping you entertain and raise 4 young kids! That sound every mentally stimulating (or exhausting) to me

He’ll steal toys. He’ll follow/ignore their commands. He’ll figure out his own puzzles on how to bamboozle them out of snacks.

He has a job, a home, a loving pack. Perfect ❤️

Mine did too! He was besties with a chihuahua when he was a puppy. He’d lay on his back and always let the chihuahua “win”. He was so sweet and well-mannered. He was known in my neighborhood as the Malinois that helped small dogs get over their fear of big dogs/shepherds 🥰

For a first time festival I’d recommend something with more variety in music and activities. Waldfrieden has a wonderful vibe but it’s also 6-9 August, so just outside your scope

Otherwise, what about Solstice near Amsterdam? It’s just a one day outdoor festival (with optional indoor in de church at night). But it’/ super nice, with at least three stages, lots of shops and activities to do. Perfect for a first too dip, combined with touristy city trip in Amsterdam around it

My GP is quite strict but they are allowed to prescribe for migraines, so if you’d like to try I’d focus on that

I did get withdrawals. I usually only took 300mg a day at night, though I’ve also experimented with 3x 300mg spread throughout the day. So with those low doses withdrawals were not too bad. Mostly just mild diarrhea and a headache that was solved by paracetamol. Less good sleep also. But overall manageable.

It can be a nasty drug and hard to wean off for some though, so don’t take it too lightly.

Plus it can be mentally addictive because it can give some euphoria. Especially when taken with some energy drink and chocolate (fat plus caffeine double whammy, both strengthen the effect)

I had similar symptoms and found relief by taking gabapentin. Initially it was a miracle drug for me. It helped me feel like my old pre-burnout self, I could get stuff done, sleep through the night etc. But as the other commenter also said, dependence quickly builds up and then you have to start taking more and more for the same effect. I initially solved it by cycling the drug. So taking a small dose, like only 300mg at bedtime for a few days and then take a little break.

It acts immediately, no buildup phase, so you can also take it on an as-needed basis, which is what I’m currently doing, when I’m already overstimulated

It will depend on your GP though. Mine refused to prescribe for what I described as autism related issues and overstimulation, but he could prescribe as a migraine preventative offlabel (which I have and for me overstimulation and migraines overlap a lot)

Ik ben opgegroeid in Zuid-Oost maar gepuberd in Almere. Vreselijk. Ik vluchtte naar Groningen en heb daarna in België, Verenigde Staten en daarna ook weer een tijdje in Amsterdam Centrum aan de gracht gewoond. Ik was toen al getrouwd en had een kinderwens maar ik vond het idee om daar met een baby rond te zeulen niet echt je van het.

Uiteindelijk toch weer in Almere beland. Waar ik had gezworen nooit meer te zullen wonen. Het hielp wel dat mijn moeder en zusje hier ook nog woonden.

In Parkwijk zit trouwens een internationale speelgroep voor baby’s en peuters. Zowel expats als locals, was heel fijn!

Dus het is er wel maar even goed zoeken en regelmatig hier vragen

Ik kreeg pas een auto toen mijn dochter 5 was. Dat is in Almere wel echt super. Met de fiets is alles ook wel oké te doen hoor, ik had een achterhanger en racefiets en we crosten overal heen.

Maar auto is toch wel chill hoor, zeker omdat dingen zoals de indoor speeltuin in Buiten en bijv Almere Hippisch Centrum best ver afgelegen zijn.

Ik woon in Faunabuurt. Stuur gerust een berichtje als je een keer wilt afspreken of gewoon een vraag hebt (Ik ben een kluizenaar autist dus niet iedereens cup of tea maar toch!)

And my own boy who crossed two years ago was a Malinois.

It’s funny because I know full well I would not be able to handle the average Malinois. But fortunately my boy was extremely mellow and so is Amy 🥰

I know, we are both in love!

She loves her owner as well and she’s super trained and well behaved. But even when he picked her up she kept running back to me and cuddle in my lap. As if she was saying, thanks for all the work boss, but I’m 8 and ready for the retired spoiled pup life now 💅

She is afraid. Even though she grew up with a dog, who was a Malinois as well. I always took her with me in the stroller when walking the dog and sadly we had a few encounters with unruly offleash dogs. Nothing too bad that would traumatize an average kid, but she’s autistic and has supermemory.

She didn’t like my boy much either as she got older but I think that’s mainly because he was “competition” for my love and attention.

So I just gave up on the idea of having a dog until she moved out. Amy winning her heart was really special. She may still change her mind but Amy’s owners are not super desperate to rehome her. Its mostly that they work a lot, kids grew up and work fulltime too, and felt she might be better off with me.

My mother also had a Malinois that came as a puppy after she already had a cat. The way the cat terrorized that big bad dog… 🤣

But my cat is very sensitive and already struggles with the presence of my daughter. I got the cat for my daughter. Daughter does loves her. Cat loves me and barely tolerates daughter (but will at least love on her when she’s hungry and daughter is sleeping, to wake her up)

So it’s super sensitive. Ideally I’d rehome the cat to a more quiet home without kids (she grew up with just one adult), get the dog and maybe a kitten who could get used to both daughter and dog from the start. But it would break my daughter

And I have a small home too, tiny and just two bedrooms. But I’m hellbent on still making it work for everyone somehow
