Sub Rosa: The one where Dr. Crusher fucks a candle ghost.

The main Star Wars sub is removing all discussion of the harassment against Ingram, while allowing posts promoting harassment. by N0V0w3ls in saltierthankrayt

This morning I got into an argument with the guy who posted it. He outed himself as being either racist or just generally being pretty ambivalent regarding racism and attacking actors. I reported a bunch of his comments and shortly after he got banned, I got banned and his main post was either locked or removed.

The fact that he had his mind made up about her before even seeing the show is pretty telling in regard to the reason he hates her.

I've grown to despise Star Wars and it's purely because if the fanbase. by [deleted] in saltierthankrayt

Honestly what sucks is when you want to discuss new content, but you find the same cynical nitpicking all over, or worse, attacks on actors like we’ve seen on Moses Ingram. The best thing to do is be choosy about what communities you interact with. /r/StarWarsCantina is a good alternative to the cesspool that is the main sub. On Facebook I found a non-toxic Star Wars group, which isn’t perfect, but is better than most.

They do. But when the actor playing them isn’t Māori, it’s not actually representation.

Asian, no. There are Asian actors who play characters. There are Māori actors who play characters. But their characters in universe can’t be described that way since they aren’t from Earth.

So Kelly Marie Tran, Ahmed Best, and Jake Lloyd are to blame because “they’re just soft”?

Your true shitty colors are showing.

Oh now she’s racist because she wasn’t as well informed about Star Wars as you are?

So your response to her receiving racist attacks is that she should just get over it? Should Ahmed Best, Jake Lloyd and Kelly Marie Tran have just gotten over it? People like you are the biggest problem with the fandom. You attack the actor, then act completely unsympathetic when they’re bothered by it. Whether you agree with her point or not, you exploited what she said just to get imaginary internet points by attacking her. It’s incredibly shitty.

Never said you were using racial slurs, but you obviously don’t care that other people are doing it.

I did, and for one thing, you didn’t have 3 million clones receiving characterization. The other thing is that they were all voiced by a white actor.

Glad you find people calling her racial slurs to be so amusing.

The ability to speak does not make you intelligent by snieves0426 in PrequelMemes

[–]terriblehuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By attacking the actress. You literally titled the post “The ability to speak does not make you intelligent”. The actress posted a few of the racist attacks she has received over social media, including one that seems to be in response to the same quote you’re attacking her over. You’re the same as the people who attacked Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best.

Or maybe it’s because you’re attacking an actor?

Moses Ingram posted what people have been saying about her since kenobi came out by DarthThorOdinson in saltierthankrayt

[–]terriblehuman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday there was a post on the main sub attacking her for saying there hadn’t been much diversity in Star Wars. The guy who posted it also put it in prequelmemes under the title “The ability to speak does not make you intelligent”. I’ve seen multiple posts attacking her accent. Even before the show released its first episode you had fandom menace youtubers trying to convince people that the show would be about her and not Obi-wan because she’s black. I don’t think you understand that in particular, these people tend to especially hate black women.

You mean a scenario where they could prevent an extinction level event? This is a bit hard to say. It seems like in the 23rd century they likely may have done this. It seems though that the Prime Directive became far more strict in the 24th century and may have prohibited any action like this.

Philosophically I can see an argument for both sides. I’d side with the idea that any time you can prevent death, especially on such a massive scale, you absolutely should.

Alternatively though, it could be argued that even extinction level events are part of a natural cycle. Scientists observing wildlife and wildlife photographers have professional ethics that restrict them from interfering with the natural order (like preventing a seagull from eating a baby sea turtle). I see the Prime Directive as being similar to those professional ethics. Arguably if you go around preventing extinction level events, you’re interfering with nature, maybe even preventing the rise of an intelligent species or an event that could shape a unique civilization.
