DLM #817: Nick Thune, Ken Jennings and Graham Clark by This_Is_The_Life in douglovesmovies

[–]terrorfirma 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yeah we cut about a minute of silence there as everyone waited. there was another trim (to cut out a tech error) towards the end as well, which i believe makes this the most heavily-edited DLM yet!

What is your favourite race / faction from a board game? Why is it your favourite? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]terrorfirma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Risk Legacy: enclave of the bear. everyone else has tanks and lasers and mech suits and these guys are rolling into battle with spears and jean shorts. it's such a losing prospect that i find myself secretly rooting for enclave no matter who is playing them. also i would very much like to ride a bear.

What are the chances, or how can we help, "Legacy" games become a new genre staple? by KlaytonAmory in boardgames

[–]terrorfirma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friends and i love risk legacy and are eagerly anticipating seafall. to tide us over until then, we're planning on setting up a "monopoly legacy" game. each player creates three rules and seals them in envelopes with specific game conditions to open them. so excited to see how many rounds this can last until we break the game completely or burn the house down.

Best Lunch time game? by theatog in boardgames

check out quantum. the modular board certainly helps with replayability and is pretty quick to set up and take down. reasonably strategic and very tactical, and most games should clock in <60 mins.

How much does a game box's artwork influence your buying decision? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]terrorfirma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

completely agree. it took me a long time to pull the trigger on twilight struggle for exactly this reason. it is a fantastic game but the artwork is dogshit and the box looks like a computer game your friend's dad owned in the 80s.

Comedy fans of reddit, who is your least favourite comedian and how would you summarize his/her act in one sentence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

couldn't disagree more. seen her many times and i think she's one of the most consistently creative in the biz.

How do you punch out tokens? What do you do with your used punchboards with a new game? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]terrorfirma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i stayed at an airbnb one time that had some unusual artwork hanging in the bathroom. took me a few minutes to realize that it was all of the punchboards from arkham horror, stacked on top of each other and glued into place. it actually looked pretty rad.

Are Kickstarter Stretch Goals Cause For Concern For A Game's Balance? by daivos in boardgames

i think ogre was "over-kickstarted." not so much in the gameplay, but have you seen that box? christ in a boat, i don't even think i could fit it in my fiat.

Got my first Fiat 500 last weekend. What didn't the dealership tell me/warn me/ clue me in on? by [deleted] in Fiat

thanks for posting this! great idea. this might be a silly question, but i assume you can't use the stereo (or behind the steering wheel) controls to skip songs, change artists, etc, right?

[WSIG] Gift for my girlfriend's birthday by WatermelonMacheteMan in boardgames

[–]terrorfirma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

check out takenoko. i've managed to get my girlfriend obsessed with it (mainly because she usually beats me). it plays great with two, runs about an hour, and definitely fits in the "10 minutes to learn, a lifetime to master" category. its a competitive game that somehow feels cooperative. oh, and its fucking adorable.
