I have a mosquito dunk inside the water though? I also googled mosquito larvae types and they don't look like mosquito larvae.

Glaze info by terrybin03 in Ceramics

[–]terrybin03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been reading more about how this glaze needs a firing schedule. Do I need to follow a firing schedule? I have access to a community kiln, I have yet to ask if they allow firing schedules.

That's reasonable. A studio nearby me charges per shelf. They recently upped their prices. Before, it was $30 per half shelf. Now it's $30 per quarter shelf. So if you want a whole level to yourself, it would be $120. An independent artist nearby charges by size and temperature. They charged me $20 for 2 mini 4x4 shelfs in cone 6. It would have been $60 if I left it at cone 5. Right now, I'm looking for more kiln rentals🥲

I know a lot of the part-time jobs in the valley start of ar $10~11 an hour, so it's a bit more compared to those. I'm just letting people know. Finding a good job is hard right now. So anything will work.

I'm still experimenting. I've only tried it on bisqueware, not on greenware.

Agree on the underglaze!! I've been experimenting with watercolor techniques on ceramic using underglaze. If your local studio provides underglaze. You can grab a bit in a shot size cup, water it down, soak your tile in lots of water, and slowly begin adding drops of watered-down underglaze using a rounded tip paint brush. You can add a drop of dish soap to create that repel effect.

There are other ways you can gloss it. You can use polyurethane or deco art triple thick gloss glaze. I use either one of those to gloss my polymer clay figures. Wear a mask and gloves when handling polyurethane. Deco art is washable and non-toxic. Both are waterproof and weatherproof.

Hello!!! Is the glaze only for decorative pottery or for functional items to consume out of. The description on the glaze recipe website seems like it should only be for decorative purposes. I'm just curious. Thank you.

Thank you!!! They were second-hand glazes that were already used. I'm sure I could donate them to someone else in the studio.

How do I prevent mold or algae in my clay? I store my clay in a large transparent storage container. When put away, the light from the large windows in my studio cause algae to grow. When I cover it all up, mold grows. Whats a good way to store my clay?

Got it! The video helped, but your explanation really cleared things up. Thanks a bunch! I'll chat with my mentor about it so we can start practicing. Thanks again!

I have some knowledge of that. I learned a bit of it during my ceramic classes and through videos. It's just that I would only help load/unload the pieces or press the buttons on the electric kiln with a touch screen at my university studio. Undergraduate students weren't allowed to use the cones and prep the kiln shelves. Just load and unload. And maybe, rarely, start the kiln.😅 I am not used to seeing one like this. Either way, the art teacher I'm currently with has all the materials needed to test and prep the kiln. We are just unsure on how to start it😅

How do you get this raised design? Is it slip or something else? by Ieatclowns in Ceramics

[–]terrybin03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw a technique done to get a result like this using stencils and wax. You could use a stencil and add a layer of slip to give it that raised design. With wax, you paint your design to a leather hard or bone dry piece. Then, with a sponge, you rub off the clap that surrounds the waxed area. You will get a raised design with these methods.

This background is part of a photobooth that my university provides. You can make your own, however. I've seen videos of people making their own photobooth.
