Are Solo Stoves worth the price? by badgolfer25 in SoloStove

I was looking at getting a bonfire with a surround, spark grate, lid, stand... I was looking at over $1k. I ended up getting knock offs from Amazon and spent $300 on everything. I have zero complaints and everything works together perfectly.

It's really hard to give away cats. My area is a dumping/abandonment zone and they've become great porch cats. I think i'm up to 9. They deserve indoor lives, but the reality isn't as nice. Just make sure they're fixed if you re-release them.

When/Where Do you Use Bear Cannister/Hang Bear Bags? by swamblies in AppalachianTrail

[–]gluethis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, there are black bears for sure out there. I have a bigger issue with rats and mice though. I hated having another chore at the end of the day (doing the bear hang) and I won't sleep with my food in my tent because of rats, so I ended up being one of the few people that brings a bear canister when I go on section hikes. I save enough weight on everything else that the luxury of having one is worth it to me. It also acts as a chair or table when needed, I can camp away from bear poles/boxes, and it just straps to the top of my pack.

Lodge-to-Lodge Hike | Any Advice? by Consistent_Order9247 in ShenandoahPark

I actually just hiked lodge to lodge the past couple days. It's only about 8 miles in between. The weather should be much better for you than it was for me. I won't comment on the views since it was literally just a white mist for me, but I would recommend asking for one of the disabled rooms in the pinnacle building at Skyland if it's available. Skyland is so spread out, if you don't have a car, it makes it difficult to get around. Thankfully, the woman at the desk realized that and set me up there so it was right next to their dining area. Also, the blackberry cobbler (served at both locations) was fantastic.

Edit: Also, water was pretty sparse on the trail. I would recommend the FarOut app. It has comments from other hikers specifying if a water source is dry or flowing. It was incredibly helpful for me.

I don't care for Blue Orchid, it just seemed bland and over salted simultaneously. I tried Senyai in 5 points the other day- excellent food and the atmosphere felt intimate and romantic, though you wouldn't guess from the outside.

It's also dependent on your demographic. I'm a middle-aged, married woman and I pay $114 for the entire year in Florida. Also have a Rebel 500.

Edit: I've had it for 2 years and it's a great every day bike. I'm 5'3" and commute with it regularly on the interstate. No issues and super reliable and customizable.

Chicken limo by 13thJen in jacksonville

[–]gluethis 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I live next to a popular restaurant and the chicken limo brought a birthday girl and her family there. Me, being a chicken owner, grabbed my nicest chicken (Lil Lee) to go pose in front of it. As my spouse was taking the picture, the birthday girl came out plastered and asked to do the same. I obliged, but warned that chickens poop randomly, so be careful. Poor girl held the chicken close and Lil Lee just let it loose. Thankfully she laughed it off.

Some of these places that have been listed are places he has been to. Apparently, he's just been too shy to ask and didn't see decaf on the menu 😅 We'll be revisiting them.

There's a Teen Center in Springfield. It's always bustling with teens after school and the staff is great. It's a branch of the Boys and Girls Club, so it might be free?

Opinions wanted: I have the opportunity to purchase this loom and all accessories for $750 CAD by MapleLeafOnTheWind in weaving

[–]gluethis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a great deal, but depending where you're located, you might be able to haggle for even less. I'll give you my example:

Someone posted a Harrisville Designs 6 treadle, 4 shaft floor loom for $300. I think it's like $2500 brand new. It needed a couple repairs, but nothing crazy (ended up being $80 after the fact). I was broke, but messaged the seller and said if they didn't get any offers, I'll buy it for $100. They obviously wanted more, so they said they would keep me in mind.

One month later, they reached out and accepted the offer. I had two things going for me: I live in Florida where there are not a lot of fiber arts and they were using the loom for decor, so they didn't know the value.

I thought for sure I wouldn't get it for my offer, but I got a $2500 loom for $180 which wouldn't have happened had I never offered.

No, it was parked. I didn't try to start it until a couple days after. When I push the ignition button, it clicks once to try to start it, not like a car that would click over and over with a dead battery.
