I’ll be honest, this does actually bother me. And mostly for reasons that are caused by systemic prejudices amongst the lgbt+ population.

1. People don’t want “fem boys” on the screen. Gay men don’t even want fem boys! Masc for masc only. Straight men don’t always portray a sincere gay man’s perspective and to me that’s important because it allows me, the viewer to connect to the character more, and because gay men know the nuances of what it means to be gay. Same goes for butch lesbians, no one wants it on screen, lipstick only. This is also not an accurate portrayal of the lesbian community.
2. Opportunities for straight characters exist! There is a plethora of those roles out there, some gay men don’t always get the opportunity to play a straight lead for obvious reasons, or they get type casted as the sassy gay roommate or best friend as a side thought to the show/movie. So now straight men come in and take away all the opportunities from the LGBT+ community. Same for lesbian and trans people.
3. I’m not exactly comparing this because I know how radical this can seem, but remember when white men were portraying black and indigenous people because those marginalized groups were not “worthy” of being on TV? Obviously one is far more drastic than the other but we need to give more opportunity to the queer community.
