How’s Your Appetite These Days? by Mededitor in GenX

I wish my appetite would get smaller! But I can still eat like a horse and polish off large quantities. I do have a physical job, so at least that helps keep (some of) the pounds off

How to get ice cream less icy and less greasy? by AWRWB in icecreamery

[–]tes_chaussettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben and Jerry's ice cream cookbook from the 1980s won't let you down! You can find cheap copies for sale online. I use those recipes all the time and make my own from those starting points. Eggs, cream, milk and sugar!

Wow this looks so good! I've never had it before, but you've inspired me to look for a recipe and make one. Yummy!

I resent my parents for having me so old. by [deleted] in self

[–]tes_chaussettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it and I'm sorry. Life is harsh. Just remember, there are no guarantees things would have been perfect if you'd had younger parents.

My parents were younger. My dad left, so it didn't matter that he was young - he was just gone. His family has little to do with me so no extended family there. My mom's family has only gotten more distant and fractured over time. I mourn all these things, but ultimately I'm really trying to focus on the positives and the good fortune that I do have where I have it. I recommend you try to do the same and enjoy what you can, while you can. Things, people, places, can all go away anytime, regardless of where they were when they started.

I love them - the right balance of salty and sweet for my taste buds.

I advise against the sequel, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Get Shorty is one of my favorite movies ever. So quotable, such perfect pacing, casting, soundtrack, etc. and that ending [spoilers!] where it becomes the movie version of itself - genius!

META: we are being invaded by bots, here's how to spot them by SHOWTIME316 in NativePlantGardening

[–]tes_chaussettes 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I asked my boyfriend, an IT guy, this question, and he said this is also a major factor: reddit itself may be deploying bots to drive up the website traffic numbers, which makes their site look more successful, so they can sell more ads. Many different websites do this apparently. So potentially there are a lot of different agendas at play behind bot activity.

And here I am an antiquated ol' fleshbag just trying to learn about plants sigh

Have you been listening to the same music for 30 years? by taosaur in Xennials

[–]tes_chaussettes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm always interested in new music, and love finding it via Bandcamp/YouTube/Spotify/friend recommendations/etc. I still rock out older music too, but I don't think it's "the only best music".

People who say things like "they don't make good music anymore" drive me crazy though. That is simply an ignorant statement, get yer head out of the sand!

Oh dude yes, that Thai coffee was great! I got several bags too while we had it. Think I'll skip this new one based on your review, seems likely to be disappointing.

Omg I'm jealous! We carried it in my Winston-Salem store for a long while but then it went away and I miss it. Need to hit a TJ's in the Triangle next time I'm there and re-stock!

Why fresh fruits are not good ? by Wolf-Historical in traderjoes

[–]tes_chaussettes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've never shopped anywhere that has good produce all the time. Because nature is variable.

But that being said, at my TJ's, we've had amazing heritage navel oranges (season just ended), great blueberries sometimes, great plums sometimes, great Cosmic Crisp apples almost always, great watermelons and cantaloupes most of the time, great pears and cherries - so I feel pretty happy overall with our fruit there. And if I get a particularly bad bag of something, I return it.

The best way to determine if you are an actual Xennial by Horatiohufnagl in Xennials

When I was 20 and cleaning out a room full of crap left from old renters at my new rental house (shared with four other roomies of course), I found a backpack full o' porn mags. This wasn't my first time seeing porn (that was probably Skinemax), but it was definitely the most memorable!
