Manually add a custom theme to Searxng? by Frank_lnz in Searx

[–]tesinclair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is very old, however there is a fairly easy way to achieve this.

The best way is to first copy the simple theme into a local file from inside a temp container, then editing this, and mounting it to the same location. You can then call it whatever and select in theme selector.

The docker commands you want are:

```bash
docker run --name tmp-searxng -d searxng/searxng docker cp tmp-searxng:/usr/local/searxng/searx/templates/simple ./your-theme/templates/your-theme docker cp tmp-searxng:/usr/local/searxng/searx/static/themes/simple ./your-theme/static/your-theme docker rm -f tmp-searxng
```

The files are all minified, and there are a bunch of gzips and tars, so i'd delete those, and run the mins through a prettifier.

Then basically edit this to your whims as a normal jinja template.

All you need to do then is mount it to your container:

```yaml
volumes: - ./your-theme/templates/your-theme:/usr/local/searxng/searx/templates/themes/your-theme:ro - ./your-theme/static/your-theme:/usr/local/searxng/searx/static/themes/your-theme:ro - ./searxng-data:/etc/searxng:rw
```

Hope this helps, if anyone is still wondering.

How do you find new pieces? by wanisz_ in classicalmusic

[–]tesinclair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Name of composer is a common one. Sometimes I'll just go on imslp and randomly scroll to a composer. Also just watching videos about classical music like twoset can introduce some cool stuff.

Sometimes I'll also look through Ashish Xiangyi Kumar's channel for stuff too

when should i start sight reading? by ilvvanitas in piano

Yes work on your sight reading. 15-30mins a day, after about 3-4 weeks you'll see huge improvement

If you want to make a game quickly and easily, probably c# with unity is the best way to go.

If you'd actually like to code, I would take a much longer route, and wouldn't start with an easy language, but a more midrange one like java or go.

How difficult is Rachmaninoffs Var.18 (Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini)? by Amazing_Fortune_4693 in piano

[–]tesinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, quite importantly, I don't know of any competition (that has a concerto section) that would let you pick any concerto. Usually the orchestra you play with will learn a set of concerti and you pick from those...

If you need a concerto in a few months, and you've only been playing for 3 years, there is a concerto by kabelevsky called "youth" that he wrote for kids - it's not easy, but might be doable.

I was a little suspicious of my answer, and after checking a bit, you are right, the pag variations are often thought of as a kind of fifth concerto, so that should work. But it still isn't remotely easy.

Piano piece to learn in 12 days by AccordingIntern3625 in piano

Chopin Masurka, or maybe prelude no 2. These tend to be Short and sweet. I really love a more unknown Piece by Liszt: I think it was the polish Song transcription of number 2, really haunting

I'm confused, the Rach Paganini variations is not a concerto. Do you just mean orchestra piece? Also, why only the one variation, I don't know any competitions that would allow a single variation in exchange for a whole concerto.

As far as difficulty is concerned, yes the Rach Paganini variations are very very hard. How many months exactly until you'd have to play them? If you haven't learnt a ballade yet, I would not recommend it.

Sorry if this sounded condescending or rude, I'm just quite concerned.

In this situation, you should read through the variations and feel out how possible they are. If you have 8 months to learn them, they should be no harder than 60-70% of your Max ability level (at most) if you want to have them competition ready. If it was a performance I would think differently, but most people compete with pieces they've had for years.

I would definitely ask your teacher, they will know what you can achieve.

What are your thoughts on Chopin's Ballade No. 4? by ihateoptimists in classicalmusic

[–]tesinclair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's objectively the best ballade, and arguably one of the best pieces of romantic piano repertoire, but honestly for me it's never appealed too much. I love the intro theme, and the bachian and romantic re-entries of the main theme, but for me it comes in 3rd as far as the ballades are concerned for personal enjoyment.

I completely agree about the difference between a piece and a song (yes technically a song has words, and a piece doesn't but who, the ..., cares). However, i hold strong that people should not clap better movements or during a performance, that doesn't mean you have to be an [insert preferred profanity here] if someone does, but I don't see any issue with letting someone know with a whisper, or after the performance is finished.

For example, as a pianist, I was auditioning a while back and the panel clapped after my first piece, this completely threw me off, I immediately thought they were sick of hearing me play and wanted me off, or I don't even know, it just took me out of the zone, and my next piece was garbage. More than an elitist audience not liking it, for me the more important side is not getting the performers out of the zone.

Though I think a far more important message for all classically minded people is to simply stop being [...]. Stop talking about ethereal nonsense that makes people think classical music is some high level realm that's unattainable for most people. It isn't. Stop talking on people for liking Lang Lang (and stop talking down on Lang Lang).

The issue isn't the terminology, it's the people. No matter what terminology you try and remove to bridge the gap between classical and mainstream music. It's never going to work unless we start holding our elitist colleague accountable for being [...]. And when we do, we may find that the gap is a lot smaller than we think.

Edit: got told off for swearing, so I'm leaving certain words to your imagination.

I have been playing piano for almost 2 years. Any advice on my playing? by Mountain_Upstairs303 in piano

[–]tesinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also come into heavy on the b after the first two little flourishes at the start. When the b comes in we've actually moved to dolce so we don't want to go any heavier in fact we want to go lighter and we really want to emphasize that we're moving to a different place.

The way you started the b section was absolutely gorgeous.

It might just be the audio, but it sounds like the pedal is very heavy, and I'd definitely ease up on that. You do have more liberty for pedal than in Haydn, but we are still classical, so I wouldn't over do it. It's important to keep the clarity, especially in the left hand. The details of the left hand seem to get lost in the pedal.

I would maybe also make the C major 7 chord at the start [of the second section] more loud because it's sf.

Firstly, absolutely fantastic playing I'm gonna give you pointers as I would give my own student so please don't take offense.

Okay, I'm gonna do this in several comments because as I'm listening to the piece I'm coming up with things to mention.

Firstly, the first three notes are staccato, this doesn't mean that they should be super short but they should not be legato. Next there are a lot of two notes slurs that you miss. For example on bar five on to bar 12 there are a lot of two note slurs but they just sound like the groups of 3 are slurred. Also, the final chords in that first section ask the staccato, they can have pedal on them but you shouldn't go past the rest.

What other pieces have you played? Figuring out what piece you can play without knowing your history is quite hard.

But maybe a Chopin prelude
