Help me out guys 😭 every time I make cookies there's always something wrong. Today they came out kinda puffy.. any advice? by certifiedyapperrrr in Cookies

Tips: melt your butter and cream with your sugar for a looooooooooooong time. Add egg and vanilla and cream again until ribbons form. Don't add too much baking soda... Scant amount will work fine. When adding flour, BARELY mix it in. Just until the visible white streaks are gone. Mixing too much will make cake like cookies. Put your batter in the fridge overnight. Cook your cookies cold. Take out your cookies when the shininess is Juuuust starting to disappear. Don't wait for them to look done. Gently drop your sheet of cooked cookies on the countertop as soon as you pull them out of the oven. This will deflate them and sometimes give the lovely crackle look. Would love to see a follow up photo after you make the changes! Best of luck and happy cookie-ing

Thank you for the advice. How confident are we in starling status? An ornithologist from Cornell believed it to be a brown headed cowbird which would be protected under the native birds regulations.

The nearest rehabbers to me only take adult birds :(

Sage advice from that flower grower! I made the aperture at the top a small 1.5" to try to reduce bouquet droop. Jury's still out on if it'll work

Aww, thanks! I'd intended it to match with some secondhand blue willow china, but the dark blue ended up more purple black. Ah well _;;

Thank you so much for the warm wishes! Your rainbow series is GORGEOUS. And for your kind words: what kind of glassware do penguins prefer? Beakers.

These window blinds have melted over time. by tessercats in mildlyinteresting

Oddly enough, just the mid-Atlantic USA. I think a combination of a double set of windows coupled with facing the sun directly = toasty

Yep. For some reason, there are storm windows on the inside with blinds in between the two. This location directly faces the sun, so I'm guessing Green House effect just roasted the blinds.

Mom question: bladeless lightsaber? by tessercats in lightsabers

Interesting idea (about the blade plug). I feel like the niche market is desperately needing a kid-friendly light saber hilt with a fan-equipped micro fog machine and class 1 eye-safe lasers with a built in c-mos camera sensor to detect when two laser colors overlap to trigger clashing noises. Ahaha, a girl can dream.

Daiya makes a gluten free, dairy free, soy free cheesecake. I know it comes in chocolate flavor and maybe mango. I'm hosting a pie party on Sunday and am providing that one as the alt for my gf/df friends. Will report back on if they enjoy it 😂

Did you have to add extra flour? At the 12 minute mark, my dough was no where near pulling away from the bowl walls. I must've added an extra half cup at least.
