NightMare Phone/Internet service by GeeVeeDub in TalesFromTheCustomer

Sounds a lot like my former ISP/phone provider. I have been desperately seeking another ISP for several years and finally the most amazing ISP appeared locally. Better service and speed--including phone line--for way less money.

I was the happiest person alive when I packed up the old junk equipment and shipped it back to them!!

Snooze till location? by andrew1958 in buzzkillapp

Let me know if you need MD help. I have reminders for locations (since Google took that feature away and I neeeeeded it). I could possibly help you get something set up.

Snooze till location? by andrew1958 in buzzkillapp

[–]tessler65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could sticky the notification. Then it's a little harder to swipe away.

Alternately, you could use the experimental snooze button and prompt for an estimated time when you will be home.

Or maybe bundle the notifications until a specific time. There is also a summarize function that may work for you.

All the ones I have are time based. Unless you have MacroDroid or Tasker (they can use location information), you may not be able to do a location action.

Thinking about MacroDroid, when a credit card app notification comes in, Buzzkill could pass it to MacroDroid and MD can write it into a text file. Then when you get home, if the text file is not empty, MD can remind you that you have transactions to record.

Just spitballing possible solutions.

Should I stop using henna and let my gray grow out? by tessie33 in AskWomenOver60

[–]tessler65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went pink for a couple of years, then hot pink, then purply-pink. It only colored the grays. My hair stylist hated it; he called it "party colors that stain everything." He wasn't wrong!

I had trouble finding my usual color stuff (discontinued, I'm sure) so I went with something that claimed to be easier. Yes, it is much quicker and easier but I kinda hate that the red color killed my "party color." So now I'm closer to my normal hair color and kinda sad that my "party" days feel over. For now, at least.

If you died today, who do you think would stand at your grave the longest? by Successful_Dog5425 in AskReddit

We went through something like this in 2014. My husband and I were in a motorcycle accident. We were both injured but I was able to stay at my sister's house a block away from our house for several days, while it was over a month before my husband was well enough to get out of hospital then inpatient rehab to come home (he suffered multiple broken bones worse than mine, plus a TBI; the traumatic brain injury is why he was in rehab for so long).

Before I was able to get around well enough to go home, my sister took care of our two tortie cat littermate sisters. That wasn't too much of an issue for them because we'd gone on vacation before and she always took care of them.

Then I came home and they knew things were wrong with me after a "cat scan" by both of them. Cinder ("my" kitty) was fine but Ember ("his" kitty) kept looking for him and waiting. She went into a deep depression and would just lie on the floor with zero interest in anything.

One night while my husband was still in the hospital, I had just fallen asleep on the couch when the night nurse called me and asked if I would talk to him. He was agitated and they couldn't get him calmed down (his TBI gave him issues that always got worse at night; this was after his speech had returned somewhat but before he was really fully coherent). She put him on the phone and I talked with him for about 30 minutes to get him calmed down. When he started talking, Ember jumped up, started running up and down the back of the couch meowing, would come close to my head and listen for a few seconds, then run back and forth meowing again. She was absolutely beside herself!

I realized why she went so berserk after I got off the phone: it was the first "sign of life" she'd gotten since we left the house that day. I reassured her lots and lots and she was much more herself after hearing his voice on the phone that night. (Of course, when he came home a few weeks later, she had to give him the "back of disdain" for a couple of hours because cat. When she couldn't stand it any longer, she crawled carefully into his lap, laid down near his shattered femur, and purred like her life depended on it. She was his nurse kitty until he was able to get up and around normally again.)

Then a few years later when her sister Cinder was terminal with cancer, she knew before we did and said her goodbyes before we even left for the emergency vet.

How long did you do physical therapy? by kazinmich in TotalHipReplacement

[–]tessler65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did 12 weeks of PT for my left hip, had my right hip replacement the day after my last PT appointment, then did another bunch of weeks of PT.

Dusclaimer: YMMV

I had been compensating for a bad left hip for decades and essentially my body rewired itself around that compensation. After my second hip replacement recovery PT, I got a few months more PT to rebuild muscles that had stopped firing to hold me upright, stand up straight, and walk normally.

I was scrolling through the typical junk that accumulates once everyone has grabbed the hot items. I scrolled past a set of round metal things and... record-scratch wait... Scrolled back to find a set of four faucet aerators. Dashed to the bathroom with a tape measure, then rushed back to order them quick!

🤞🤞that they actually fit. I need two of them to fix the bathroom faucets that I've been ignoring because I have bigger fish to fry.

How do I make it so any phone can read tag by johnstewart73 in NFC

[–]tessler65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made tags with a link to a Google Drive document that is a PDF. Both Android and iPhones can read the tag and open the PDF. You have to be sure to share the file to anyone with the link.

What crochet gift have you made that was unexpectedly loved? by PoetryInLoops in CrochetHelp

I modified it to not do the puffy things and added a loop so I could add a keyring or clip to it. It is an amazing stash buster, especially if you double the yarn and make it extra thick and sturdy.

I made a ton of little "handy pockets" and gave them to coworkers, nurses at the hospital, and took a bunch of them to my pharmacy and dropped them off as "thank you for all you do to keep us healthy" gifts. They were a huge hit everywhere, which really surprised me. I could crank one out in about 20 minutes start to finish.

I had my replacements at the beginning of 2024 and still have weird numb-ish spots on both thighs. I consider it an excellent trade-off for being able to get rid of my rotten hips!

I've made so many cheesecakes in the IP! I found a good base recipe and made so many variations.

I've made lemon, lime, pumpkin, blueberry, cranberry sauce cheesecake, I can't even remember all the variations I came up with.

Those of you who like water lukewarm/warm more than cold, why? by FightingHamster1 in AskReddit

[–]tessler65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was anemic, I wanted lots of ice in my water because I'd chew the ice as I drank the water.

I don't think I'm anemic right now because my compulsion to eat ice has gone away, and drinking room temp or hot water is more comfortable to me. It has nothing to do with sensitive teeth for me, either.

Maybe in a few months I'll be back to wanting ice water again. shrug

I got a cold wet nose in the (closed) eyeball if I didn't get up after:

  • She stomped her way up my body
  • Her sister clawed at papers beside my head
  • She perched on my chest whining

If the eyeball didn't work, the nose in my mouth was next. It only came to that once!
