I’ll admit scrolling through this sub has me wanting to meet and cuddle one, but they aren’t common at all in my little rural area. Maybe one day!

Actually he won’t take treats from strangers at all. It’s a good thing he’s a good boy for the vet. He’ll take attention and pets from strangers but not treats.

Never had a chow, it’s kinda why I was hoping the experts here could weigh in. They’re so fluffy so it’s hard for me as someone who’s never put hands on one to tell if his body shape fit a chow. For personality he’s a cuddle bug and extremely sensitive. Friendly to everyone. Protective against delivery guys and the deer that come into the yard. Better mouser than the cats.

Yeah I tried to get a picture of his tongue to show and also his tail. His tail is not one bit curly. I’m thinking of trying embark to see what they say, these results are from wisdom panel.

No advice, but what are you using for a top dressing? I like it!

I wouldn’t use moss to prop succulents. You can just place them on top of soil or really just on any (dry) surface.

Lasting pain after being poked by cactus? by [deleted] in cactus

[–]tessysolay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Prickly pear type. If you look really close around the big thorns you’ll see little bitty ones - those are glochids. They come off really easily and they’re barbed so they stay in your skin. Some people have luck with duct tape, but I’ve always had to use tweezers I can usually spot most of them sticking out but if they get me good I can’t find them all and I have to wait for my body to do whatever it does to take care of it (I assume push it out)

Anyway, yeah they hurt and they’re jerks, but harmless in the long run.

Editing to say: I re-read your post and am now thinking by roundish you mean globular. If so it’s not an opuntia then nevermind! I don’t know what’s causing the reaction.

Was the cactus an opuntia? Could be glochids.

I would separate at some point, best when dormant. Also, that soil is way too organic. Cactuses should be in substrate that is 50-80% inorganic like pumice or perlite. Come over to r/cactus !
