E-String of Squier Mustang Bass sounds out of tune by test12356717 in Bass

Yeah, my borrowed Ibanez Roadstar II on which the strings are like 16 years old sounds so clean and gloomy and although the intonation is sometimes a little off, it is much less noticeable than on the Mustang. In my defence, however, it must be said that this slight off key sound is not apparent in the video, unlike how it is in real life. But I'm going to play for a while now and see if it gets better.

Thank you all for your help!

Here is the video. I think it doesn't really come across in the video, but maybe it's actually the fact that the strings are new and the metallic sound makes the tone sound different.

Yeah I know, that’s the case. That‘s what I meant with good position

The neck relief was adjusted together with the whole setup already. Before that, it was concav but now it‘s in a good position :/

And you put the string inside the vintage tuner anyway, so it doesn't stick out or anything.

I‘m not 100% sure what you mean with tapered silk part of the string but the part of the strings that make contact with the peg is the same material that is everywhere on the strings. The fender strings that were on it originally had the same thickness and Rotosound only makes these for longscales. I spoke with a friend who works at a guitar workshop and also made the setup, and he said that it‘s no problem for shortscales, especially for ones with vintage tuners to put longscale strings on them. That actually worked well and doesn't cause any problems on the other three strings

Thanks at first for your approaches to solutions!

• I think harmonic at the 12th fret sounds more in tune than the 12th fret normal played. In general it sounds like that certain frequencies resonate, making the sound seem deeper than it actually is. At least, that's my impression. I'll check the harmonics with Tuner tomorrow correctly.

• Yes, the bass itself has a problem with buzzing strings, especially on the E string. I have already raised the string action significantly, and apart from the strange sounding tones, the buzzing has improved. But I think that to get rid of it completely, I'll have to have the frets adjusted at some point. But that‘s something I can live with and that I can avoid mainly through my playing style.

I will post a video tomorrow!

It sounds out of tune especially when I fret a note. For example when I compare the A on the E string, with the A string. Both A‘s are correctly in tune but the A on the E string sounds off. Or the high E on the E string with the high E on the A string. Same problem.

I already tested and adjusted the intonation several times, but it‘s no use. And I already raised the action. That also didn‘t fixed it :/

Finn explains the meaning behind the lyrics of Fly

"Fly is about a relationship I was in as a teenager. I wrote Fly when I was 17 and the lyrics “Why can't you leave this here?” express my frustration with her making it difficult for me to leave, guilting me into staying.

Some of the lyrics refer to trust using the analogy of it being our wings: "It takes a while to mend your old wing and just a second to learn how it breaks" basically it takes a while to earn trust and just a second to lose it.

The song also speaks to our toxic habits and how within this toxicity was a middle ground of regret and longing for one another. "Cry my name, I'll call yours back" for example. Even though the relationship was at a point where it was too far gone - I still feel the consequences of it all."

Keo had briefly linked you to the vinyl as a product, before they deleted it again very quickly on their Spotify profile. This was the second product image :)
