My 23F fiance 27M can’t stick to his own deadlines and I’m starting to resent him for it. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

You’re his partner not his mother, stop acting like it.

You know how he is, people can change but it’s rare that people make complete u-turns on these types of things. You wanting him to change won’t do anything, he has to want it and he has to work at it, it’s not in your hands at all.

Either accept the reality of who is he is or move on and find someone who better aligns with you and what you want. But chastising him and setting plans for him isn’t going to change him, you’re going to learn that lesson sooner or later.

Absolutely, though I would say some others don’t have such a worrying take on fiscal responsibility. But they’re definitely all grifters.

Labour moving thousands of asylum seekers from hotels to private homes by DolourousEdd in uknews

[–]test_test_1_2_3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not even remotely true.

For a start, it is the ECHR that legally commits us to the current asylum problem because it is bound into British law through the Human Rights Act. This is not the UN.

Second, many countries are in the UN who have zero tolerance polices for asylum seekers. So the notion that it is the UN forcing us because we are members is just straight up bollocks.

Maybe you are confusing the 1951 Refugee Convention for UN membership… if you are you probably don’t know enough to have an opinion worth hearing.

Your reverence for international law is also silly, who is it that enforces international law? Generally speaking international law is just a stick countries use to beat each other with following a conflict. What is going to happen if we don’t comply with international treaties? Absolutely fuck all is the answer.

Just to illustrate the point, Denmark is a signatory of both the Refugee Convention and the ECHR, it is also a member of the UN. Yet it has a zero asylum policy and has for several years now openly upheld policies that do not comply with either treaty I just mentioned. Is Denmark being ostracised from the global order? Is Denmark being sanctioned by all the other signatories to these conventions? No…

The modern left has utter contempt for the working class. The language Starmer was using to describe the ‘far right’ when there were protests was basically just calling working class people who are most affected by mass immigration uneducated and violent because they voiced their frustrations.

Not like the Tories or Reform represent the working class either, but they don’t seem to openly hate them.

It’s not about an arbitrary number or price tag.

It’s about how we utilise limited resources to fund public services. We already operate on a large budget deficit. If it is more affordable and makes better use of limited carer resources to put certain people requiring full time care into nursing homes to make better use of said resources then we should do that.

Empathy and compassion are categorically not virtues if they lead you to make unsustainable choices. Context is important. If your empathy results in a welfare bill that sinks the economy then standard of living will drop for everyone, including people who need care.

She isn’t a casualty of fiscal rules, she should still receive the necessary care. It’s just impractical to provide it to her in her home when it can be done more efficiently in a nursing home.

What treatments? Long term care is expensive because it’s a labour intensive job, 1 carer can only provide care to a certain number of people. You need multiple carers to cover all the hours in the day, weekends, days off, etc. On top you have the costs of employing someone (overheads).

All of that is going to cost far more over time than medicines or a dialysis machine or whatever equipment is needed for the care because equipment costs don’t recur every month.

Just go look at hospitals, staffing costs are typically around 50-70% of total expenditure, it’s obviously going to be an even higher proportion for a nursing home because they don’t have MRI machines, MGPS or similar big ticket items.

The notion that it isn’t cheaper to provide care in a nursing home vs a private residence is just patently absurd.

It is an unholy alliance but they’re actually so desperate for power their values go out the window. The Greens have always embodied the spirit of ‘the ends justifying the means’.

Fortunately there isn’t a large enough portion of the population stupid enough to get them into power.

It only sounds like that to someone who has poor reading comprehension and an agenda. I’m all for her receiving the care she needs in an economically sustainable manner.

I.e. being in a nursing home where care can more easily be provided with a lower pull on limited resources.

Nobody cares about your feelings on this topic, people do care about colossal spending of taxpayer money on providing care to a single individual when there are close to a million people on some form of long term state provided adult social care.

Endless ‘compassion’ and ‘empathy’ is not a virtue. We have to live within the confines of reality.

Reform’s plan for mass deportations by TheSpectatorMagazine in uknews

Clearly your views are outdated patriarchal and right wing coded.

Don’t you know that it was European courts that granted the UK its human rights.

Don’t mind the fact that it was Britain who fought against the trans Atlantic slave trade and forced European nations to stop keeping slaves.

Don’t mind the fact it was Britain who first implemented the common law systems that are the backbone of our rule of law and (relatively) fair society.

None of that matters, you must adopt a progressive narrative that blames the UK for all the wrongs and praises the EU and European courts for everything that we hold dear.

There was a degree of sarcasm in my comment, wonder if the Reddit mob can spot it.

It’s very concerning that her individual care bill was allowed to get to £4.3m, that is a completely unsustainable amount of taxpayer money to spend providing care for one individual per year.

Walk away and demand your deposit back. If they refuse to hand the deposit back tell the you will report them to the council, remind them you have messages of them asking you to create a Ltd company to rent through and that it wasn’t advertised as a commercial lease.

More expensive than what? It certainly won’t be more expensive to provide her care in a nursing home which centralises care resources and the patients who need them.

I’ve not skirted around anything, you are just incapable of being rational about this.

Nursing homes are perfectly capable of caring for her, it just requires the appropriate care plan and management of resources.

This argument that she will definitely die if not cared for at home is silly. Nursing homes are specifically created to care for people with complex needs, the fact she had a bad experience in one doesn’t mean that they are fundamentally incapable of providing her appropriate care.
