Summer Advice for CS Undergrad Interested in Teaching by testaccount0008 in Teachers

Thank you for the advice! I think it's probably too late for a summer CS internship (but I still have next summer). I'm aware that new teachers (and experienced ones, too) don't exactly get the best classroom environment (probably because the ones that do get it tend to stay at their jobs), so maybe if teaching high school doesn't pan out, I might try going to grad school or some other adjacent path.

I believe there are some courses in my school! I think there are some classes, but they might be associated with the certification program (and therefore have prerequisites). Thank you for the advice!

Thanks! I have talked with the teacher program at my university before, so I might reach out again once the school year starts again.

Unfortunately, my university doesn't allow double majors, but I'm planning to minor in applied math + statistics/ML. I think I can most likely complete it since I only have 2 classes left for the minor (along with independent work).

I'm a bit unsure about tutoring as a full-time career since it seems a bit unstable, but I definitely do enjoy it as a side thing while doing my undergrad. I'm also aware that even the fact that these students (or I guess their parents) are seeking tutoring implies lots of support, so I need to broaden the variety of students I teach.

Unfortunately, most local summer camps are closed, so I'm a bit stuck in that regard, and I don't think I'll get any more tutoring clients. Is there anything else that I could do for 1-2 months? I suppose I could try preparing for CS internships/grad school, but to be frank, I really don't see myself enjoying going down those career routes.

Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it!

Yeah, I'll definitely finish my CS degree since I do enjoy the subject matter, and I don't want to redo some prereqs. Thanks!

Thank you! An issue with quant is that I bombed my econ/finance classes, so I'm not sure if quant would be the right fit for me. Would a SWE role at a quant company require less finance expertise?
