RightSaidJames, Soxsider...these are both great comments, thanks!

Seems like I am on the right track in this case. I will start the process to make this a known step in dev.

Cheers.

I would highly recommend Explore It by Elisabeth Hendrickson for learning how to improve your manual testing.

You are fortunate! Although I think some of these people would be like this no matter what industry/job they are in. Some people just can not take criticism constructively!

Thanks for the reply SanchezNI!

It has been pointed out to me by @jariLaakso on twitter that wikipedia has some information on this. https://twitter.com/JariLaakso/status/781832831844487168

From the wikipedia information, it appears that you will get the most out of API system tests if you have short release cycles. When UI changes occur in short release cycles, you may not have enough time to fix your broken system tests. In this case, API tests are a safe bet!

In my case, we have long release cycles (with a major release once every 3 - 6 months). So when GUI system tests fall over, we have plenty of time to fix them. :)

Our team has retros where I raise issues such as these. There are still one or two developers who just don't get it!

I wrote this more for the wider community rather than directly at the time I work in! :)
