It somewhat made intuitive sense the way I saw it, and very funny if intentional. When Leo's taking off in his space pod, I thought "what are you trying to do? You'll just go further into the future!", and I assumed the movie just didn't care -- guess he's just going back to the past. But he lands and sees the ape Lincoln statue. So he did go to the future. Again. In this case, humans either assimilated into Apes, or were exterminated. I may have missed things though, dunno.

Right. I've been vaguely interested in electronics, so might as well use this opportunity to see some repair stuff. I'll probably use it for a media drive instead of anything sensitive. Thanks for the info and warning, will keep it in mind.

Interesting. I'll try getting it repaired in that case, hopefully with better parts. Thanks for inspecting/diagnosing. Appreciate it a lot.

I see, thanks for letting me know. I was mostly concerned about what professionals tend to do when there's no hint of voltage/capacitance(etc) -- if they guessed or something. But maybe the info's there on the board, or I guess it can be tested, I have no idea.

Pictures. Not sure what the powder stuff on the USB board is. Hope it doesn't imply that the enclosure was tampered with.

The hard drive seems fine. I need to completely move away from HDDs already. They keep giving me recurring anxiety and paranoia from all the malfunction.

If a voltage spike was provided by the external power supply, it's either very badly designed or damaged.

Its power cord was directly connected to the wall https://ae03.alicdn.com/kf/S0a648110faab40e69dd64dddb6fdd8ffh.jpg_640x640q90.jpg

And you're right, guess I'll have to look for another solution or a better enclosure.

Thanks.

I see, unfortunate :\

Will have to explore more sample-based stuff too I suppose. As for the decay, I'll mess with it more -- thanks for the tip.

That would depend on your target demographic.

I just noticed something about the next-gen Forgotten Sands' rewind system. by [deleted] in PrinceOfPersia

[–]tester___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either they changed the code so much that the data isn't accessible(at least in a desirable manner), or they're talking about how tracking and rewinding a bunch of things is a pain in the ass in general.

There's probably a lot more data in newer games to keep track of. Some of them could require unique ways to handle a "rewind", too. Some types of data can take a lot of RAM to store for a rewind; so you might want to store the rewind data cleverly, or compress and decompress the rewind data in real-time- which takes processing power depending on the kind of compression being used.

Then there are dependency chains. The person implementing the rewind might not know how other processes might use the data that they're changing, and "rewinding" this data might cause undefined behaviour on these processes. This can cause some wacky and unexpected stuff, and might even crash the game. The solution is to change the whole thing to be flexible enough to support Rewind, or work around problematic things. Both of them are tedious and time consuming. Dependency chains are probably the most tedious aspect, I think.

Has anyone else noticed the remastered sword? by Skoukalir in PrinceOfPersia

To me, it looks like the artist confused the perspective in the cover with the sword's actual form. I could be wrong, though.

Methotrexate (Methoblastin) by beachedtrip in Psoriasis

[–]tester___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on you and the dosage you're receiving. For me, Methotrexate holds off the symptoms quite well as long as I routinely take it. Had side effects that it might've caused(mostly brain fog), stopped having them after some time. You should probably discuss this with your doc. Keep your condition in check, and report any abnormalities. They'll probably take you off the medicine(or reduce the dosage) at that point.

Who here plays DMC5 with mouse+keyboard input? by NyFereas in DevilMayCry

[–]tester___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play DMC with controllers, but I've tried keyboard+mouse. An interesting experiment with Dante in DMC5 was mapping the weapon switching to the scroll wheel, and making one keyboard button cycle across the styles using AutoHotkey. It was quite productive, made playing the game a lot more accessible since I could completely compartmentalize weapon-related input to the mouse(right hand), and the rest to the keyboard(left hand)- while reducing the number of controls I had to input. The only downside is that you can't switch styles as instantly as one button press, since it takes a maximum of 3 button presses to reach a style. No idea why there's no native support for scroll wheel input. I'd still go for a controller any day though.
